First off, hats off to this kid for how he played on Saturday. He turned quite a few busted plays into positive yardage with his feet. I often thought back to Dungey and how he used to do the same.
It seems that people are still longing for Tommy in various circles. Does he give us a chance to gain more passing yards? Probably. Does he give us a better chance to win, however? I don't think he does. Shrader does.
As GS continues to become more comfortable in his role, I personally believe SU fans will become more and more satisfied. The kid is a gamer and has shows signs of that IT factor that you cannot teach. During the FSU game, he routinely escaped busted pockets and disrupted plays by getting to the outside and extending the chains with his feet. He showed signs of composure with a few better throws on the designed bootlegs/PA rollouts that I would love to see alot more of. This will only force opposing DCs to free up some internal pressure that caused Tucker to be slightly less effective.
I've said repeatedly over the last few seasons, Dino's offense runs WAY better with a dual-threat QB. Dungey was the mold. With all due respect to Tommy and his incredible arm, we do not have a good enough OL to let someone sit back and play 7 on 7s or RVA's. As Shrader gets more and more comfortable back there, this offense only will get better and better. I was legitimately disgusted after the Rutgers loss. This program had zero direction and it all began and ended with the QB roulette. Dino made the tough decision to sit Tommy and start Garrett for Liberty, but IMHO it was the only option at the time.
Tough loss on Saturday, but the team played well. Monster schedule ahead and it begins with a huge game this weekend.
