First off, hats off to this kid for how he played on Saturday. He turned quite a few busted plays into positive yardage with his feet. I often thought back to Dungey and how he used to do the same.

It seems that people are still longing for Tommy in various circles. Does he give us a chance to gain more passing yards? Probably. Does he give us a better chance to win, however? I don't think he does. Shrader does.

As GS continues to become more comfortable in his role, I personally believe SU fans will become more and more satisfied. The kid is a gamer and has shows signs of that IT factor that you cannot teach. During the FSU game, he routinely escaped busted pockets and disrupted plays by getting to the outside and extending the chains with his feet. He showed signs of composure with a few better throws on the designed bootlegs/PA rollouts that I would love to see alot more of. This will only force opposing DCs to free up some internal pressure that caused Tucker to be slightly less effective.

I've said repeatedly over the last few seasons, Dino's offense runs WAY better with a dual-threat QB. Dungey was the mold. With all due respect to Tommy and his incredible arm, we do not have a good enough OL to let someone sit back and play 7 on 7s or RVA's. As Shrader gets more and more comfortable back there, this offense only will get better and better. I was legitimately disgusted after the Rutgers loss. This program had zero direction and it all began and ended with the QB roulette. Dino made the tough decision to sit Tommy and start Garrett for Liberty, but IMHO it was the only option at the time.

Tough loss on Saturday, but the team played well. Monster schedule ahead and it begins with a huge game this weekend.

After this weekend, I'm confident we can give every team left on our schedule a fight. After sitting Tommy and Taj transferring, I'm confident in Dino. Say what you want about Florida St. but they have athletes all over the field and we were a last second FG kick away from beating them at home, for the first time ever. I'm optimistic and excited to see how the rest of the season plays out. It will be a dog fight. Hard work and a little luck, we get to 6. I'm fired up.

The coaches need to take the handcuffs off Shrader and our receivers and let them make plays.

I think they will. They now know what works for a Shrader-led offense. Hopefully Dino & Co make it happen.

The thing about mobile QBs is that everyone is using them to run their offenses. When is the last time Clemson had a prototypical pocket passer? If the elites use mobile guys we shouldn't be surprised if we need to too.

Agreed. It’s kinda the standard now.

And before people point out that Tommy is actually pretty fast and can break off some good runs...it’s not really about that. He really has a hard time making things happen extending plays and making things happen outside the pocket. Not trying to knock him, just pointing out why I think it really hasn’t worked here.

Its not who he is.

I would put this differently. The heart of our offenses is Tucker and Shrader’s running, with just enough passing to add balance. Build off the running attack and an aggressive defense. We don’t want Shrader throwing 30 passes/game.

I still think we might need Tommy - our QB1s haven’t made it through the season. Hopefully, we avoid that. But TD is a solid #2

Honestly, I would move on entirely from him. He doesn't fit the mold IMHO. If GS gets hurt, give Lamson a shot.

We need to move forward or Dino will be moving on. I think he realizes that now.

Eh, if GS gets hurt - I want a guy who can throw and knows the offense. A senior TD > any one else outside of GS IMO

The problem with Tommy is the offense we are moving to needs a QB, who can think while moving. You need to react to what the defense is giving you. Tommy is a pocket passer, who has to run the play as it is drawn up.

Bingo. Well said.

when the played seem to be QB run he did a decent job. when it was escape he struggled.. Not sure we have seen Shrader really escape anything much either from in the pocket. but he does a decent job outside the pocket to extend plays a bit .

Trevor Lawrence? Idk was he really a dual-threat? After years of them trotting out guys like Taj Boyd and DeShaun Watson it seemed Lawrence was more of a pocket guy but I could be mistaken. I don't watch alot of Clemson unless we are playing them.

He wasn't in the same mold as Watson, but he was athletic and they didn't hesitate to run him and he was able to use his mobility to avoid pressure and make plays. He wasn't Manning, Brady or Marino. The only year he started the whole season he ran for 563 yards at 5.5 ypc and had 9 td's. His three years at Clemson he had 943 yards at 4.1 ypc and had 18 td's.

I guess I disagree.

No, I meant Lamson. Nothing against Morgan, but I have seen extensive film of Lamson. Kid is legit.

If you’re saying it I’m hopeful we have someone who can play down the road.

Yeah, we’re all aware of his shortcomings. I don’t think they outweigh the positives vs the rawness of #3-5 on the depth chart. I think it’s weird that people think we should look past the kid when he was in contention for QB1 two weeks ago.

He ran well and made good decisions this year.

Hopefully all a moot point and GS stays healthy all year

God forbid, but if Shrader goes down I bet Morgan gets a shot (if not Devito).

The players love him and he’s finally had time to develop a bit from his experiences last year.

Don’t want to throw Lamson to the wolves just yet if he is legit.

Wish he would have realized this two years ago.

I don’t thinks it’s people doubting TDs ability.

Just people recognizing that it’s probably time to move on from him and that’s okay…I think it’s best for all parties involved
