SI.com on Bazley

Good article. The fact is nobody knows how this decision will play out, despite what I am reading on this board. Time, as always, will tell.

Thought it was a terrible article. So one guy says how brilliant a move is. Can the guy explain being taught by a G league coach in comparison to a hall of fame coach?

There’s a sadness to this article. College is about so much more than going to class at 8am. It’s a life experience that guys like Baz give up on. It’s too bad. We have become a culture where people think they can only do 1 thing all the time

This. College was the best 7 years of my life! :p

JK. But, I really did have a great time, all of it.
Going to 3-4 classes a week for 2 semesters isn't like working in the salt mines.
And there's the social aspects of it, being around thousands of kids your same age, etc.

But the other things I took away from that article are - the G league coaches may not play him all that much, since as a skinny 17 year old going up against grown-ass MEN who are likely 23-28, he may not be able to physically compete.
AND - they may not want him to look "too good", so they can hang onto him for down the road.

He'd be getting all the minutes he could handle at SU, plus 30k+ fans for big games, national TV, a chance at a nice NCAA run, and working w/ a HOF coach.

He gets none of that going this route.

I think he will likely end up looking back on this decision, and regretting it.
Even if it does work out for him.

You're only young once.

1000% right. Perfect way to describe how this makes me feel.

I feel sad - that our culture encourages/defends this, that people are so willing to give this kid advice (probably) without bringing up the great aspects of going to college, that kids don't feel it necessary to even thank SU for taking a chance on him, etc.

I’m not into nba basketball. Now college basketball is on the way to the waste treatment facility. The Big East was the best now with the ACC and the one and done players at NCU and Duke it sucks. Duke gets the number 1,2,3 players in America and teams like SU get a couple top 100 players hope for under the radar types and anyone good goes NBA I mean the development league and then Europe.

Anytime you have a chance to earn $30k playing basketball for the "Wisconsin Herd" in front of a capacity crowd of 3,500 adoring fans in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, you gotta do it.

Way better than spending a year on campus of a top flight American University, founded in 1831, with historic buildings, knowledgeable faculty & staff eager to teach you/prepare you for life, with thousands of other young people from around the world.

Living on a campus where sports stars like Jim Brown, Ernie Davis, Donovan McNabb, Carmelo Anthony, etc before you came to prominence.

A place where a VP of the United States studied (Joe Biden), titans of the entertainment industry (Dick Clark, Bob Costas, etc.) and even Lexington Steele.

Tough to get a person to appreciate any of that if they don't currently, I guess. But it's still sad.

And girls! Don't forget the girls!

Any experience any of us had and what he was going to have are worlds apart. He was going to spend a semester and a half at school basically playing basketball, working out, hanging out with his teammates and getting a whole bunch of booty. Then following whenever that last March loss comes, he was likely dropping out and that was the conclusion of the college experience.

And girls! Don't forget the girls!

One night after bars closed (my senior year) one of my roommates invited a bunch of people back to our place to continue the party. Well, one girl in particular was especially intoxicated & annoying - to point where I chose sleeping by myself over having her stay the night. (Yes, THAT annoying haha.)

Once it becomes clear to her that I wasn't interested, she goes "Fine, then drop me off at Carmelo's place."

Me: "What? I don't even know where he lives..."

Intoxicated girl: "I do, I'll show you - just drop me off there."

Me: "Uh, ok..."

True story. You can't make this stuff up.

That’s an underrated great story

Yes but now he doesn’t even get that. I’m not talking Baz specifically . The one and done is a travesty of rules.

When Bazley decommitted from Ohio State he said he had NBA aspirations and wanted to play on a large stage to showcase his skills

Someone persuaded him the G League was that stage
And in my opinion thay someone deserves to be smacked

The salary of $26,000 isn't great, but he can now receive endorsements and shoe contracts.

Yep. Nobody knows how it plays out. If bazley never committed anywhere but made this move, how much discussion is being had?

How many 18 year olds make $26,000/yr? It isn't a lot, but not many do. How many 18 year olds then have a shot at endorsement deals and then NBA careers? Handful.

We're all selfishly pissed about it because it has made about 35 of our nights in the next 12 months slightly less enjoyable. Just some can process through it and come to an understanding as to why someone would make this choice, while some others are hoping the kids life turns out horribly now because he didn't wear a basketball jersey that says Syracuse on it for 5 months.
