Siena Basketball: GMAC / Blackwell / AO

UConn really should drop down a line. They are more a 3 than a 2 at this point. If that doesn’t happen then there’s a bit of Duke treatment happening with them now.

Ouch.
Gerry could be the greatest coach in the history of the NCAA, but Siena ain’t beating Duke. Shocked if they lose by less than 25.

If JW helped Hodg in the matchup, he took it out on Gerry.
I didn’t see any brackets predicting Siena as a 16 seed going after the number 1 seed in the whole tournament.

Some had them in a play in game.

Siena Saints

Region: East
Record: 23-11
Tournament ceiling: Round of 64

Twenty-three years after he helped Syracuse win its only national title as a player, Gerry McNamara has led Siena to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 16 years. It was a quick rise for the 42-year-old, who finished 14-18 last year in his first season, but then turned things around. Siena played top-50 defense nationally inside the 3-point line, finished third in the MAAC in the regular season and won the league's tournament. McNamara returned three of his top four scorers from last year, including Gavin Doty, the 6-5 guard who is averaging 17.9 PPG and 7.0 RPG. Siena is, incidentally, ranked 26th nationally in "minutes continuity" on KenPom, a metric that measures a team's roster turnover from one year to the next.

And they could win by 50 or 60, but ya just never know until they play the game.
Wouldn't that be something. [GMac maybe would be hired as the new HC at UNC.]

It's happened I think once before - a 16 beating a 1. UMBC beating UVa.

and of course to remind us all -- 1991 (I think) the first time a 15 beat a 2. Richmond over Syracuse. Cole Field House, College Park, MD. and I was there. Ugh. I'm still in shock.

Chaminade beating Ralph Sampson and UVA is probably the biggest shocker of my lifetime

Twice. FDU over Purdue.

Siena loses two more players to norovirus, GMAC applies for an emergency 5th year of eligibity with the NCAA, is approved, and drops 13 treys on Arizona in the champioship win as player-coach!
Not to bring up diseases, but in 1989, the 1st year Siena went dancing, and upset Stanford, they played numerous games in empty arenas due to measles. It was bizarre.

That could happen again this year, sadly.

Measles is BACK!
