Siena by the numbers

Even with your cherry picking 40 to 43 is a huge jump

Where’s 43 coming from? I didn’t cherry pick anything. I compared his two upperclassman years at SU, 40% and 38% to his one year as a 5th year senior at Clemson, 41%.

A few percentage points is the anticipated variation for any shooter. 40 to 41% is not a huge jump.

Did you want me to include his underclassman numbers? Why?

I think it's crazy to deny a correlation

Why? FT form and 3pt form are fundamentally different. Release angles/points are often different and FT’s naturally don’t involve the lower body nearly as much. Not to mention all of the other variables, like being able to lock in on the rim, the difference between standing there with nobody moving and standing there with everybody running around, having your feet set vs needing to get your feet set, shooting off the dribble or catch vs holding the ball and taking your time.

They’re different things.

ChatGPT spit out some NBA players for me who are good 3pt shooters but relatively poor FT shooters.

Marcus Smart
Lonzo Ball
Draymond Green
Dillon Brooks
Jae Crowder

The list of good FT shooters who are poor 3pt shooters is quite long.
If you say so

I looked at overall not three. My mistake

Irons and woods are different and I suck at both

I don't have analytics for this or really anything, but if Gerry retains, recruits, and/or plays lazy, selfish, low IQ players, with no accountability, then I will be concerned. Until then...

I'm watching the Nebraska Iowa game right now, with two incredible coaches. Their teams s move the ball so well and get great shots, and execute. It's a market contrast. The slop we've endured even before red got hired. I look forward to getting back to the days where we have a functional offense, let alone one that is highly proficient.

I really wish they would spread these games out so we can watch them all

Lots of ways to take good 3s

You can pass pass pass
you can be good at screens and running off them for curl 3s
You can have bigs who can have quick releases and stand in good spots
You can good on D and creating unsettled shots
You can be good at rebounding and getting 2nd chance 3s
You can have good range so teams dont get out far or fast enough
You can have 3-4 guys who can make them and teams cant cover all the space
You can have a good inside game that forces teams to cover down leaving guys open

Or you can just be a really good shooter

All the great offense in the world doesnt mean you will have a team thats good at 3s but it should mean you get more quality looks

Update, this game is incredible down the stretch, with both teams hitting big shot after big shot. Damn.
