Shewell scores on a cut and absorbs a big hit after

Shewell again on a wide open look assist from Thorpe

Game over 18-5 final. Big game next Sunday against Albany. Good start for the year though for sure.

A few random late-night thoughts:

-Evans had a rough game. 2 nice goals & could've had 1-2 more with better shot placement but also at least 3 turnovers. He struggled with a few routine passes/catches & slipped/fell to the ground on 2-3 dodges. Hopefully he can shake the rust off.

-Thorpe looked good as the 4th Attack. He's more fleet-of-foot than I expected & has a tall, well-built physique. That quick-stick catch-&-release goal with limited room was, as JeremyCuse said, ridiculous.

-I saw Bomberry in scrimmage highlights but I'm surprised they'd blow his RS if he's only going to play the final 2 minutes in a game like this. Obviously it's a mutual decision between player & staff but I recall reading that he's a high-academic kid &, being a Native, I assume he's eligible for the Haudenosaunee Promise...though I admittedly don't know the exact criteria.

-RFrosh SSDM Schwasnick stood out to me. Great size, speed, tough on GB's, & not afraid to throw his body around.

-I was skeptical reading Desko's comments on the goalie competition in practice & simply refuse to believe that Molloy was any challenge to Hill. Without going into detail, after watching them for 3 years now, I just don't see either him nor Avallone as ACC-caliber starting goalies next year. Just my opinion & would be ecstatic to eat crow. Looking ahead to 2017 (I know, but it's late & I'm bored) I wonder if the Liverpool HS grad/Merrimack transfer Madonna is the front-runner after redshirting this year. If not, we may be looking at one of the highly-touted incoming Frosh. I've read very encouraging things about Drake Porter. Starter for the Canadian U-19 team & had good showings in scrimmages, including one vs the US. Playing at IMG Academy, he'll face probably of the toughest national schedule in prep lacrosse as well as the nation's most prolific offense every day in practice. I'm just rambling now, let's enjoy Hill.

-Lastly, our SSDMs continue to lead in the celebration department. First it was Grimm with his patented "sensei bow", then Cifferi with the "whip dance" last year, & today it was Gillis "DABing". I enjoy seeing them have fun & am glad Desko allows it

Nice write up.

I think we need to admit that Evans is what he is, and that's what we are going to get from the rest of his time on the hill. He'll have the occasional stellar game, but mostly we're going to get what we got yesterday. Frankly, that's not the worst thing in the world. :noidea:

Don't leave Mellen out! He is the best freshman close defender I can remember in a loooong time!
