Connecticut won their second title.
North Carolina won their fourth.
Florida won their first and then their second.
Kansas won their third.
North Carolina won their fifth.
Duke won their fourth.
Connecticut won their third.
Kentucky won their eighth.
Louisville won their third.
Connecticut won their fourth.
and Duke won their fifth.

2010 and 2012 were the ones that got away. I thought we were the best team in the country for sure in 2010 and at least top 2 in 2012. Thanks for nothing basketball injury gods(2010) and thanks for nothing Fab(2012)

Sad thing is the run from 2010 to 2014 should have brought us at least one more.

Nothing is a guarantee in the NCAA tournament. Advancing deep into the tournament is about matchups and luck as much as anything. But I honestly feel like we missed a window of opportunity - especially in 2010, 2012, and 2013.

Now that the NCAA sanctions have tied our hands a bit, who knows if we'll make it back there over the next few years.

We absolutely did.

2010 definitely, 2012 a real possibility (that team was primed for a classic matchup with Kentucky and who knows how Kentucky would have reacted to that zone) and the 2013 zone may have been the best I have ever seen come tourney time. It was the offense that was the problem (yet, we were extremely close). Even last year there was a real opportunity when you think of having Ennis and a dynamite front court in a down year for college bball. We were playing as well or better than anyone in the country for most of the year and just folded like a cheap tent at the end. But there is no reason that team last year couldn't have made a serious run given there was no real elite team out there.

And Wisconsin won none... and went wee wee wee all the way home.

That season with Ennis we were executing extremely well down the stretch of games rather than actually playing very well IMO. Teams figured us out a bit, our shooting dropped off, Grant had back issues and we simply couldn't maintain the late game heroics. I don't think we were as good as it seemed through 25 games but also probably not as bad as it seemed down the stretch.

2010 should have been a heavyweight fight between Syracuse and UK. Instead it was Duke-Butler... great game - but was minor league.

2012 should have been a heavyweight fight between Syracuse and UK. Instead it was Fab Melo.

Sad but true.

2010 was the one that I can't rest easy with.

Not only was that team a fantastic "team", but the path to the title game was great. After Butler it was KState coming off a 2OT game, then MSU without their starting PG and then a Duke team that was one of the worst title teams in recent history.

Nothing is guaranteed but 2010 was probably the best all around team I've ever seen at Syracuse. That team had absolutely every facet of the game covered. Well, aside from adequate depth, apparently. Arinze's injury continues to haunt me. That was the championship that got away.

Agreed. And nothing is guaranteed, so it isn't a fait accompli that we would have gotten there / won it all, but I agree with your take.

I'll lump in 2012, as well. I don't think that team was as "pretty" offensively as 2010, but they had much better depth, and three legitimate scorers [Waiters, CJ, Southerland] that they could bring off of the bench, which gave JB the ability to tinker in-game to figure out whichever group of players had the hot hand that day. Relentless defensively, as well.

That UK team with Davis was fantastic, but who knows? Maybe they'd play like freshmen against the zone. What I DO know is that we were clearly the best two teams that year. What I DO know part #2: we got unbelievably screwed by the refs in that OSU game.

Those two missed opportunities will haunt me to my grave.

worst part of this is that without Arinze, they could still slide jackson back to the 5 and bring Joesph off the bench with Johnson as his battery mate. They were still much Better than friggin Butler without AO. Definately a lost opportunity - the only thing that softened the blow for me was that my first child was born the same day just before the game started. I watched the game with my little boy in my arms.

That's a great story, despite the game outcome.

March 25, 2010. I will never forget that. I remember Syracuse fell behind double digits early then slowly took control of the game and went up by 4 with only a few minutes left. I thought the game was over and they would pull away. The complete collapse the last few minutes was astounding and something that normally would have resulted in me going Berzerk. Under the circumstance I sat calmly and quietly, my wife was impressed.
