SMU Post Game

We lost today because Lampkin was absolutely horrible in the second half. He never fought for defensive position and he didn’t work hard on offense. Three straight trips to the foul line and only got one on each trip. You lose leads when you don’t make foul shots. You have to get defensive stops and you can’t have a defensive rebound taken out of Lampkins hands with under two minutes left. JJ missed some wide open threes and blew a couple of inside shots. That’s why we can’t finish games. You can’t blame Red for this game. At some point these guys have to make plays at the end if the game no matter who’s in the game.
At what point in a season is it on the coaches, in your opinion?
Every game is the same - get a big lead and blow it. It's uncanny how they all seemingly fall apart the same way.

I don’t understand how a guy who really doesn’t shoot threes well gets a green light to go 1-10 when the rest of the team was actually kinda lights out from three.

And why take out your gigantic rebounder who is playing for friends and family in the building and replace him with a skinny Frenchman on the last defensive possession? Not even a Syracuse fan and that hurt my head.
If you don’t know why, you don’t know anything about the game.

The script is written for all of these games. We get a lead, then we abandon the pattern in the second half in favor of JJ iso ball and we lose. And, that's why I am out. Every fan can see it, but our coaching staff doesn't, so let them go, all of them. Time for something new.

Certain games when he isn’t providing anything offensively I get why Taylor is on the bench. That couldn’t be any further from the truth tonight. 13 points on only 7 shots and we know he is better defensively than most guards/wings on the team. So it begs the question why was he on the bench so much? Did Red forget about him? Assistant coaches need to recognize the substitution problems and say something.

Players have to make winning plays. They don’t. Red can‘t shoot, rebound, play defense or pass for them. They don’t have a closer. If you remember in the preseason, Jeff Goodman watched practice and said they have some good athletes but NO GO TO GUY PLAYER. That’s why they can’t close games.

And that is on the coach!!!

According to the announcer he’s “the guy you just can’t leave wide open”.

That’s another thing….someone needs to get Theo Pinson away from the microphone.

I know ESPN is mostly a jobs program for retired Duke and North Carolina players, but they need to be a little more discerning with who they hire. He makes Jay Williams sound like James Naismith.

This was a fait accompli at halftime. How many really thought Syracuse would win? Just terrible execution on both ends of the court in the last 5 minutes. Taylor is our best defender, which is not saying much, and had an excellent offensive game and he sat most of the 2nd half.
I was at maybe 60% much higher than most games. I saw much more effort, hustle and fight. Im thinking this team is digging deep to end this season. I 'expect' at least 1~ unexpected~ win in ACC tourney.
There were a bunch of unfortunate things that happened in this game. I cannot stand SMU basketball, #24 Iggitydikhed..sp? and the last 5 minutes...not 1 FG made!

SMU is my new...
not Gtown yet
not Uconn yet
maybe ole Pitt bc of their dirt style?

I said it earlier in a different thread.
Most coaches like to take advantage of the hot hand.
Not SU and Red.
We like to ride the cold hand, and douse our hot shooting players by either denying them the opportunity to shoot or just yanking them out of the game.

In the Virginia Tech game after Cuffe scored his 13th point I told Buddy just watch - Red will either pull him or deny him the ball. And that’s what happened
And after Cuffe scored his 10th point today I said the same thing to Buddy.
And like magic out he goes.

I don’t know what Red has against Taylor and Cuffe but this is getting beyond ridiculous
Actual game performance wins games, not hopes and dreams and what might have been.
Not to mention play those who actually will defend.

This loss is all on Red and JJ.

Business is still business regardless of friendships. Red cares more than anyone but his subbing patterns worry me to say the least. JJ stunk and they lost bc of that. But you can also bench him so he doesn’t miss 5 horrible shots ina row. It’ll be interesting when I get to golf with these guys this summer. I’ll have some serious questions
Red has to move on from JJ if he wants to keep his job.
