SMU Post Game

Certain things with this team I know and expect which I guess is why I am not complaining as much today...

JJ - He is an inconsistent volume scorer. Has been his entire career that will never change. When he gets rolling he can be good. When he doesn't have it going, he will kill you because he will just keep shooting because that is what inefficient volume scorers do, and that is why we tell you points per game is a useless stat.

Red - He is just not a good coach. He is terrible at subbing players and is a terrible situational coach. Not very strong with X's and O's. Really does nothing well as a head coach.

I know these things already so I expect them going in...

What I didn't expect...

Was the team giving effort for the entire game, and playing with intensity, that was the first time they played the entire game like that. We saw it for the second half of ND and we saw it for pretty much the entire game today

Carlos played by far his best game ever at Syracuse against another quality PG. I didn't really think he was capable of that.

Bell probably played his best overall game of the season, I thought he really competed well on both sides of the court.

How tight on money are we? Heard we’re already taking the megabus down for $11 a seat.
We waited too long to book...tix are now $28...the AD however paid for extra leg room for 2 guys though! "Sarcasm"

Players have to make winning plays. They don’t. Red can‘t shoot, rebound, play defense or pass for them. They don’t have a closer. If you remember in the preseason, Jeff Goodman watched practice and said they have some good athletes but NO GO TO GUY PLAYER. That’s why they can’t close games.
There were at least 4 guys who were more go to than JJ tonight. How about get Bell a shot at some point in the last 8 minutes.

I will say this.
No way our record is this bad if Boeheim was coach.
Even in his downward spiral his last few years, he could out coach Red during an actual game 10 times over.
Frankly I think most high school coaches could out coach Red.

I will go to the final game, and I will renew my season tickets.
But no more NIL from me until we get a new head coach.
Not that I give a ton but they won’t get even $50 from me.
Talented players are wasted on Red.

A bang average mediocre coach wins this game for the orange.

We lost because our coach is poor.

It's ok to say out loud.

There is going to be another year of this.

You don't have to pretend anymore.

Business is still business regardless of friendships. Red cares more than anyone but his subbing patterns worry me to say the least. JJ stunk and they lost bc of that. But you can also bench him so he doesn’t miss 5 horrible shots ina row. It’ll be interesting when I get to golf with these guys this summer. I’ll have some serious questions
Let’s get crazy: Autry, Griffin, Straughn, Engelstad…..care to rank them as golfers?

That’s another thing….someone needs to get Theo Pinson away from the microphone.

I know ESPN is mostly a jobs program for retired Duke and North Carolina players, but they need to be a little more discerning with who they hire. He makes Jay Williams sound like James Naismith.

Pinson totally needs to increase the amount of time he uses the phrases “big time” and “elite”. They only constitute about 70% of the words out of his mouth. I think if he works hard, he can bring this up into the 90% range.

You're right. I'm not a fan of this team. I don't see how anyone that likes basketball or grew up watching in '80's/'90's could be. I did dvr the game though. Maybe I'll watch some of it.
Cool! You said it yourself...so
Hmm? You only like successful teams? These guys played their hearts out tonight. I am still a fan bc I grew up watching the 80s and will always be a fan til im in my 80s... I pray I make it.
So did life happen or you just did whatever? while game was on?

I am not the almighty fan man, JMO obviously...I just will never understand how a fan can pick and choose when they are a fan...If the team is playing and you are able to watch...well thats what a fan does, watches their team.

Not just when they are successfully winning alot..
So if we were 22-7 or whatever would you have watched then?
Duke is having a good year maybe you should watch them?

Red proved definitively tonight that he has no business being on a side line. JJ got tore up on defense, and was absolutely terrible on offense. Once again cost Syracuse the game yet red left him in and actually GAVE HIM THE BALL time and time again. Clueless. If the big money donators actually think red is a good coach then my donations are gonzo. They arent much but i cant support this chit show and not feel like im getting trolled.

8-21
6-16
5-15
6-12
5-14
3-17

JJ is simply not good.
He is simply not good enough to put the ball in his hands to win us the game...especially when he has proven he can't do it.
Everything else I agree with 100%.

Taylor: 16 minutes, 5-7 (3/4) 2 fouls (in case you were wondering)
Starling: 30 minutes, 3-17 (1/10)
And Cuffe 13 minutes, 4 of 6 , 2 fouls.
In a combined 29 minutes, they scored 23 points on 9 of 13 shooting.

So of course Red goes with the cold hand, volume chucker and poor defender.

Statistical anomaly to lose this many double digit half time leads. Undeniably a coaching issue
Obviously overall winning % is the best indicator of coaching but going a bit deeper I think things like what you mentioned (not blowing 10pt leads) and winning games within 4pts are very good indicators.
