So, For Those Of Us Who Have Not Studied

Dungey is going to be a stud IMO. Think of that Robertson kid from Villanova but with a better arm.

Hunt will start next year, but Dungey could be a 4 year starter for us.

His film looks very impressive.

He seems to have great athletic ability - lots of speed and size.

His throwing motion is not clear from the video.

But, yes, I agree, I like what I see of him.

65 teams in the Power 5. Our class is ranked anywhere from mid 40s to mid 50s, so roughly 75% of the P5 teams had better classes. Also anywhere from 10th to 14th in the ACC. Looks like a garden variety SU class that we have grown accustomed to in the past 15 years. Of course, stars and rankings don't matter, I guess.

And we 0nly brought in one QB...very disappointing. Not sure any of the guys on the current roster would start and any other ACC school.
Terrel Hunt finished third behind Clemson and Florida State in the Atlantic in '13. He broke his leg in '14. You think he honestly wouldn't start for another team? What a ridiculous statement. You saw what the team was like without him, I hope.

I assume this will play out like it has for most of the past 10 years. People will say that this is a good class, addresses needs, "one of the best in years", etc. And then 3 years from now we'll gripe that we don't have enough talent in the program.

I'm not a cynical guy by nature, but I am when it comes to SU recruiting.

:noidea:

I'm a boob who knows practically nothing worthwhile about evaluating incoming talent. That said, somebody wake me up when we figure out if the QB is a player or not. Because outside of that, I see a class that will continue the current trend - strong D that likely be asked to do more than its share to try and win games.
Dungy won't be ready until 2016. I am almost positive they will redshirt him this year.

We didn't need to bring in more than one QB
We filled all of our needs
We now have PLENTY of depth on the D-line
We didn't need any WR in this class

We could have used another safety

Please do not toss Hunt out. I would not have discounted him last year. He is getting WAY too much criticism. If he had stayed healthy last year, maybe we beat a couple more teams. Hunt is an excellent runner (not fast) but have not seen someone that can make people miss like that since McNabb. His deep ball was improving too.

The problem is will some of these receivers make a leap next year and will the O Line get enough proper coaching to protect--or at least open up a hole for a running back? If those questions are settled then we might have a decent year
I was a big Hunt booster and still pull for him but I think he really deserved the criticism. Hopefully this season will be different.

In which I speculate on which players could see the field sooner, rather than later: http://.com/which-2015-signees-could-see-early-playing-time/

Is anyone surprised that we didn't bring in any WRs? I know we have a stable of them now but it doesn't seem like we have great playmakers and could use a few. Other than that, I'm very happy with who the staff brought in.

The punch was a difficult way to for him to start the season along with the losing.

Although it's important to have good rankings, the only way to get better with a program like SU is to get a better recruiting class each year regardless of how other ACC teams are doing. This year is incrementally better than last year and last year was better than the preceding year.

Unless SU is willing to invest in an Urban Meyer type coach, the way that HCSS is doing it is the right way but also the only way SU can do this.

I think SWC75 said it best in one of these threads - lets first get to a consistent and legitimate 6-7-8 win team so that the coaches can prove to the next year's recruits we are back on track. I think it's very doable this year.

My gut would tell me that instead of a solid 3 star class with 4 or so 2 star players mixed in we will see it turn into a solid 3 star class with a few 4 star kids in the mix. That would "show me" we would truly be back on track to get to the next level of an 8-9-10 type team.

Its really the only way - when we have 4 solid years of recruiting and the whole team is mostly made up of solid multiple offer type 3 star kids (70-75 kids) with a dozen or so 4 star kids in the mix, then we will be on track to take it to the next level.

All I can see as far as recruiting is concerned is that we are headed in the right direction. These kids are legit, are bigger and taller too. Now the kids and coaches have to start winning games on the field to keep the momentum building in the right direction.

That is disconcerting, but this is a class full of three stars, many of whom have good offer sheets.

Our class also got dinged IMO because we have two special teams players we're bringing in. Even though both are amongst the top rated guys at their positions nationally, they never get more than 2 stars at most sites.

Holfrichter is actually got a "75" rating at ESPN, which is tied for 3rd highest in the entire class. He didn't effect ESPN's grade at least.

did we get a solid class?

How does it compare to the quality of last year's class?

Thank you!

imo it was a solid class. For our standards this was a very good class, probably just a touch below last years.

And how about the long snapper?
Also, ESPN is only one of the recruiting rating services. The other two rarely have special teams players rated higher than two stars. Thus, we can land the #1 long snapper nationally and still have it "drag" down our overall ranking.

Name the team he would start for.

I got 5: Wake, Clemson, Duke, Va Tech, UVA.

Next move onto WR. Ish, would start for: all but FSU and Clemson
Estime if healthy would start for: all but FSU and Clemson and Miami.
Erv in the slot would start for: all but FSU and Clemson and Miami.
Heck, West last year would've started for any but FSU, Clemson and Miami based on his numbers last year being better than the #2 WR for each and every other school. Those numbers were undoubtedly affected by SU playing its 3rd string QB a good bit and 2nd String almost all year.

RB -- PTG would start at:
BC, Va Tech, UVA, Louisville, and Duke.

Virginia, Wake, VT, he could probably start over Stoudt, better passer than Tyler Murphy.

So our top QB is a lower quartile guy in conference, yet we are ok at QB?

I just would have like to see the staff to bring in two QBs and actually make the most important position on the field a priority.

Negative Nancy -- We beat out the following P5 schools in the rankings:
247 -- Purdue, Colorado, Oregon St., Iowa St. and Kansas
Rivals -- Purdue, Colorado, Oregon St., Iowa St., Kansas, Pitt
Scout -- #48: Purdue, Colorado, Oregon St., Iowa St., Kansas, Pitt, Iowa, Rutgers, Utah, UVA, Minnesota, BC, Indiana, Kansas St., Wake Forest, Duke, Vandy,

That's pretty amazing after going 3-9!

I'm sure they will (next year is shaping up nicely for SU and QB recruiting) and QB will be a big priority any given year -- you can never have enough -- but if you think any QB on the roster other than Hunt could make it on the field at any other ACC program, you've grossly undervalued Hunt. He's already proven he can win with consistent pieces around him. We forget, too, that if Hunt started vs. PSU, SU likely wins that game in the Meadowlands. That could have been huge in recruiting. SU isn't likely to upend FSU or Clemson next year, or probably the following year either. I'd take 4-4 in the ACC next year in a heartbeat with Hunt, and believe it's entirely possible.

If the 2016 class brings in a high level QB who can compete for playing time (or win the job) as a true frosh, the pieces are there for a lot of ACC success after last years and this years class.

Really, the only potential trouble areas on the team are at QB and DB.

OL likely needs a year for these guys to go through the strength program, but think 3 of these guys have high level starter potential.

Lot of talent at WR. This class added a lot of talent to the DL (a haul that hasn't been seen in awhile w/ chance for some immediate playing time), TE (1 ready to play, see where cards fall for DL's), LB (2 ready to play LB's) and OL.

Marquise Blair might be the most important recruit if looking at playing time next year. If he qualifies, he will be an impact freshman and likely 4 year starter. Dontae Strickland also has a chance to start as a true frosh.
