So, For Those Of Us Who Have Not Studied

Scout uses the top 25. That is what their site said a few weeks ago when I checked.
looks like They all have different rules. I know Rivalz uses top 20, so I assumed Skout did as well. I'd have to check ESPN.

Watch out for Ty Cross and Clark. I cannot tell you how impressed I am with how Cross fires off the line. He reminds me of one Art Jones yet with lower pad level and more fluid. Clark is not as explosive yet has above average pursuit for a DL. Watch for Cross to get pressure up the middle and Clark to finish off the player as they scramble. With the length of the DE recruits in this class and how they could force players back in the middle for our DL, LB, S to finish off, we will be very hard to run against as they mature. These last two classes could be our best OL/DL haul ever.
I agree the last two years have stocked both lines well and we've got a good base to dominate the line of scrimmage for the next 4 years.

I know we had some negative nellies on this Board (I could easily call you out) but that's what negative nellies are good at - complaining. For me, I continue to see both long and short term improvements in the program and am justified in having hope for the future of the program.

So this is my analysis of this year's recruiting class as I'm very very positive about who we got - I like all the kids we got and I have no question mark about any one of them either. Nuff said - Go Cuse!

Man, I've gotta admit I have posted some pretty negative nelly posts this offseason. A 3-9 record with the way we played those last 2 games particularly will do that. On top of that, I have some strong thoughts on new coaching hires and when the team went a different way, I boiled over. However, I took a deep breath and took a look at our new TE/OT coach and figured both he and Lester deserve a solid chance to see what they can do. I recognized we have no way of knowing if my proposed hire from a certain Florida 7A high school would have panned out better anyway and Lester might be just fine with this offense. Anyway, I figured I could wait long enough to find out. Then we closed this class so damn strong with pulling in Pickard and Steven Clark and I'm right back to being excited for this upcoming year and believing this team can win 8 games, maybe more. Glad I saw it through, I was ready to stop watching college football for good.

I'll defer to others who are more knowledgeable but I'm concerned about the quality of the OLinemen and Quarterback. Aside from Conway they look to be very lightly recruited by other programs. That's rarely a good thing.

DLine looks like this program's best haul since the 90's.

Looks like they're bringing in two safeties who can play immediately and a quality kicker as well.

My spin:

Adams was recruited pretty hard by Maryland over the summer. He committed to us the day after visiting them. I’m pretty comfortable he would have scored offers from all the NE regional schools. Rutgers, BC etc. Committed to us on 6/12 and already had offers from MD, Temple, UConn

Conway would’ve had a dozen. Committed to us on 5/16 and shut it down.

Duerig – 6/17 – same thing he shut his recruitment down – changed phone numbers I believe (either him or Conway).

Clausman is intiriguing to me. He has started a lot of football games for Aquinas. Top rated SPARQ for lineman at Miami Nike Combine.

Byrne – IDK.

Both Aquinas kids seem like agile guard prospects.

Lineman are impossible to predict. I've seen our most recruited kids flame out and then nobodies from rural NY do well. It’s hit or miss. Weight room, conditioning, smarts, drive, desire etc. I'm a firm believer in stockpiling this postion (15/16 of them) and they sort themselves out.

DLine – solid. Two more tackles to go with Harvy/Samuels plus the Carter kid. DEnds couple pass rushers couple run stoppers. Good offers, good haul.

DeLeone used to say 16 was the perfect number.

Harvey transferred. Homesickness more or less, if I recall.

I really like this class. The OL and DL are the most important positions outside of QB and we have done very well this year on both sides of the ball. RB is stronger than it has been in years. Three studs. The DB position is solid as well. Dungy looks really good on film, and we landed a great long snapper and kicker. The LB guys also look to contribute early. The only hole that i see is at the CB position. Wish we could have picked up a true lock down corner. All in a great class and super to see us back in NJ.

We are going to miss Reddish a lot this year.

What's the deal with with QB Dungey? Nobody ever seems to mention or talk about him. How does he stack up against last year's QB recruit (Long) or previous years (Wilson)? I've read the John Robertson of Villanova comparison. Just seems he's not really mentioned much yet we all mention we need a QB. Did any west coast schools make a late run at him? That would be encouraging.

go watch his film. He looks promising. I just think everybody is sick of talking about the 'next' qb recruit.

He actually reminds me a lot of Robertson. The kid looks legit to me. 2 of the services were extremely high on him, with one saying he was the most under recruited QB out west. I really have no idea why he didn't have any other P5 offers? He seems like a perfect fit in the Oregon, Arizona type of system.

Conway was a good haul, and had a solid offer list when we got him, but imo Adams is the best of the bunch. Duering could prove to be a multiple year starter as well. The STA guys are interesting. To me it's inexplicable 2 offensive lineman with their size, playing at that program would be so lightly recruited? Something doesn't add up with them, i'm very interested to see how they turn out.

All the OL pretty much shut down their recruiting once they committed. Byrne was the only one that wavered a little bit but the rest of the recruits and the idea of playing with his counterpart ended up settling him down. Both the STA linemen started on one of the top teams in the nation and State of Florida divisional champs. Although both played OT, Byrne will get a shot at OT and Claus will play at Guard. That being said, I think Byrne could move inside and Adams and Conway could play the OT with the STA gents playing guard. What is extremely positive is that all the OL recruits have played OT which is much harder to play as you need to have better footwork. SS is on record, as well as Marrone, as stating that they like the linemen being cross trained to play all positions. Duerig is going to groomed to play center but would make a heck of a guard. Look for almost all to be redshirted and ready to play after a year of SC like Ward.

I have a very, very good feeling about Dungey. He's got great size, he's very smart, and his film is very impressive. He's not good enough to come in and start as a true frosh, but he's got the tools (footwork, balance, strong arm) to the point where, with some fine tuning of his mechanics, I think he could be a 3 year starter for us. I was really, really impressed with his film*.

*this is where I note that highlights are almost always impressive, and I have no idea what kind of competition he was facing in Oregon

Smart is better than not. Usually (but not always) means they can be coached. Like all of our QB recruits in the past what - 10 years? - Dungey looks like a project. The competition appears to very weak. If he is a starter in 2016 we might be in for an up and down couple seasons of similar to Nassib's soph and Junior years. (I'd settle for that right now.)

The best thing Dungey or any other QB recruit may have is an offense more reliant on running as we just don't have a corp of top-notch P5 receivers.

We're so beaten down by not hitting on a QB recruit, they all get painted with the same brush.

Let's give him a chance before we label him a project.

And it was the first question from Bailey.

So I was thinking about this, when exactly is it ok to ask about it? Never? Can't ask before signing day or you get I can't talk about recruits.

Maybe Bailey dug his own grave on getting an answer by harping on it in his articles, but still, if a kid is saying this, it should be asked.

I haven't seen the presser yet so I probably shouldn't comment but I also think Shafer should welcome it as a chance to tell his side.

I'd say at the end of this presser - or wait until the thousand press availabilities during Spring/Summer.

I can see waiting until the end. Shows Bailey was just itching to make it a story, so I can see why Shafer would be put off.

But if a kid of 2 is out there saying it, it has to be asked at the signing day presser, not waiting for spring practice.

I'm intrigued by Kenny Carter. Seems similar to Bromley in that it's a late add of an athletic DL with room to put on weight and big a great DT.

The OL guys they picked up. Also interested to see what happens at LB. Lots of competition for snaps there.

Doesn't matter - always going to get uncomfortable questions at a presser. Shafer is just not polished enough to handle those yet. All he had to do was say that we didn't handle it as well as we should have, taken the blame himself and moved on No more story. He has to learn how to deflect or diffuse those things.

Not the appropriate time for that question, then wasn't satisfied with the answer he got which made Coach Shaf elaborate a little more. Coach is an upstanding dude, to have to put a kid's personal business out there to explain his side of the story to him isn't worth it...read between the lines though...you had a couple kids who after being in contact with the coaches receive benchmarks of things they need to achieve or maintain, if not met, we are moving on...kid doesn't meet it and says they just broke off contact with me, yeah it's a story...but it's not all that. Talk about the kids who are here...ask that question at the end, probably would have been received a lot better...just my opinion.

Dungey is going to be a stud IMO. Think of that Robertson kid from Villanova but with a better arm.

Hunt will start next year, but Dungey could be a 4 year starter for us.

I'm sorry to sound like jerk - but how would anybody know this ? That's what people said about jonny miller and countless recruits .
