So, How Much Money Did Mrs. Rice Just Lose?

That right there is all you had to say, and I do applaud you for having a stance to begin with. Abuse of women is always something that will stir the emotions of good men. I appreciate having someone bring an opposing viewpoint to the table, as it gives me things to ponder and lets others consider their own morality. My issue was with some of the ways you were presenting your side I guess.

"Just because it happened to you or someone you know or you took a psych class is college doesn't mean that's always the case." This line in particular seemed callous, and is not an appropriate way to share your viewpoint. Having said that, I do not truly believe that was your intent, however others may dismiss your point altogether by things like that. There are better ways to get your point across without making yourself sound like you're superior.
Agreed. Good looks on pointing that out as I absolutely don't want to be dismissive of anyone who has gone through an abusive situation.

Yes, it's a pretty awful thing to do.

And I'm not giving him the benefit of anything.

He committed a crime. The criminal justice system has processed the crime.

And the victim is now suffering a financial hit that she probably does not welcome.

And that financial loss was probably prompted by what has become a media-induced tendency to resolve bad behavior with lightening speed and lethal intensity- not necessarily on the basis of genuine concern for the victim.

That's the point I was trying to make.
How did TMZ get the tape, and why did they publish it?

Going out on a limb here... Rice had gone through the criminal justice system, and whether or not the NFL saw the tape, chose to see the tape, etc., they handed down a punishment, to which all parties agreed. Now by releasing the tape, TMZ has caused the Ravens to dump him, and the NFL has suspended him.

Is there a claim for Tortious Interference?

Where is tommy Kane now? jail.

Rice's punch could very easily killed her and where is he now?
im guessing tommy is still in jail, unless he served his time already.

he couldve killed her for sure, not sure where he is...the beach??

These were pretty good guys other than that one moment in time  And yes, I've made mistakes before, but knocking my wife unconscious by punching her in the face is not, and will not be one of them.

Between this comment and your other comment about girls your friends are dating trying to bang you, seems like you might need to be around classier women and hang out in nicer establishments.

Honestly, one of the best part of getting to my 30s is not going to those clubs anymore.

I don't feel bad for Rice. I think he's a scumbag who has probably done some awful things in his life that we haven't heard about. You don't go from upstanding citizen to cold clocking your fiance in one singular moment.

I feel awful for his wife and the fact that people don't seem to care about her other than in the moment she was a victim. It's a messy situation made worse by the NFL and Goodell. If he suspended Rice for 8 games this would be far less an issue right now. 2 games was just such a joke.

$3 million? $6 million? More?

Does the rule of unintended consequences come into play?

The modern "hue and cry" scenario spurred by an insatiable media and a social compulsion to appear politically correct - that itself is propelled by monetary interests - has become quite disconcerting.

The woman is alive, healthy, married and satisfied with the criminal administration of the matter.

Is it really necessary now to hurt her financially?

Is there really a need to metaphysically "kill" a young man who up to that moment in Atlantic City apparently had lived an exemplary life?

I'm tired of guys like "Mike & Mike" driving social policy and impacting individual lives.

I haven't even read the responses to this, but I have been thinking the same thing all day. I believe we just punished her also. In no way do I condone what Ray Rice did, and to say they are now married and satisfied is not necessarily the right way to look at it, or it may be. Often the abused women keeps going back to the abusive situation. But it is not the NFLs job to rectify that. And possibly the Rice's have worked through this, and gone to counseling and therapy, etc. and are well on their way to a long and happy married life. But the bottom line is that they probably just made her life more of a living hell and was that really necessary.?

Not to be an @sshole, but there are plenty of women out there who abuse men, too - physically, verbally and emotionally. There are plenty of women out there who hit men, and to an extent they are empowered to do so by society's moral ban on striking a woman. Apart from the strength issue (which can be negated by use of a weapon by the woman), why is a man striking a woman any worse than a woman striking a man?

I've known 2 friends (male) who were physically abused by their wives. In both cases the wife was taller, stronger, and more athletic than those guys. It happens. they both eventually got divorced.

No way will I ever defend a man for hitting a woman. I don't want this to sound like a defense of Rice or anybody else. Just want to say that although women are much more likely to suffer from physically abusive relationships it isn't exclusive to women.

Isn't that why we have a justice system? Or are we settling court cases via public opinion now?

I also highly doubt that every person who happens to be caught on video gets the same treatment as first time offenders.

There are different degrees of assaults

Happens in bars a lot. Another reason is the girl has a boyfriend (typically a biker) who likes excuses to beat the holy hell out of people. Then he and the girlfriend have hot sex afterwards. I know some of these people.

Listen, you guys are all entitled to your opinion. Clearly what he did was a huge mistake/crime but everyone here lives in a glass house. I hope one day you never mess up and have your life defined by it. People don't seem to be too big on forgiveness here. His wife, the victim, forgave him and would like to move on and asks that you all stop, but continue on in your messageboard character assassination, Rice opened himself up to it by what he did.

It doesn't have to define his life - I'm sure the CFL would love to have him down the road. If someone at my job punched his wife in the face on the elevator, he's not getting his job back. I would sincerely hope he gets his **** together and moves on, and reestablishes himself as a pillar in the community, but that's how life goes. Sometimes you screw up, sometimes that costs you a job.

I guess if you consider what the internet says about a public person as defining their life, you got a point. He's got a lot of time left to figure it out though.

There are consequences for your actions. I think that's all anyone is saying. For Ray Rice it just happens to mean he may have screwed himself out of A LOT of money. Dude knocked a woman (his wife) out on an elevator. It's kind of hard not to judge someone for that - or at least support him losing his job. Them's the breaks.

Anyway, he can still do whatever he wants with his life, maybe he starts a battered woman's shelter, maybe not. Look at Ray Lewis, he's practically a murderer, and now he's got a job on ESPN and praising the lord as often as he can! If he can do it, anyone can!

You're probably right about the first part. I've always been a sucker for the nightlife but the reason why I mention this is I feel I've been around people who a lot of people on this board never encounter. Last night, Anthony Smith was going way overboard on Twitter about all this and was rightly destroyed in a thread on this board, but I partly get where he's coming from because I see it. Somebody who's older or has never been in that crowd has no clue why people get jaded. Now this is in no way justification for knocking your girl out but I'm just giving a different perspective on the urban modern day man/woman culture.

What I'm speaking to with this is all ancillary though. The bottom line is he messed up bad and deserved at least 8 games. The NFL tried to cover it up and now it's blown up to epic proportions. If you want extrapolate this incident to mean he is a serial woman beater who must have done numerous other atrocities in his life, I wouldn't define someone like that, but by what he did he opened himself up to that narrative on his life.

After 67 responses to the OP's question of "how much money did Mrs. Rice just lose", how did nobody respond ...
