They need a big man to be the big man coach. Gmac is not one. However, I suspect that since Z already has a job that probably pays well, bumping Gmac up to assistant coach puts a more money in his pocket for a while than being a grad assistant. My guess is that he will remain there 'til the end of the season.

Z was already on the payroll as a strength and conditioning coach.

Easier to replace 1 person, then shuffle multiple people around in the middle of the season.
