So part of Cohen's job description is to

set players against one another and rip them in comparision to others on their team or their competition and generally stir up resentment or embarrassment.

What a tool.
He doesn't know how to write without being a condescending . not a good trait for a 'journo' to have.

He's no journo...he'll be heading to the blogoshere where very little research is necessary and anything goes. Weasel.

So I was trying to think of who these new reporters reminded of... it's taken awhile, but I finally was able to remember that I saw it in a Frasier episode during a bout with insomnia about a year ago... go to the 11:10 mark and meet the kids from "Teen Scene," who lure Frasier onto their show in order to bash him on air:

One of his other titles is "Chief Asshat of the Brown Starfish Club". He's really thriving in that role.

That is an insult to Asshats everywhere.

Check out the Hunt, AAM, and Kicker articles. Just a nasty tone or cutting remark dropped in with emphasis.

Completely unnecessary, this ain't the NYPost/NY Daily News.

The AAM article is just bizarre.
Yeah, he's not playing. Why would you write an article on the 3rd string RB or whatever he is other than to make him feel bad?

Time to cancel my subscription to the Post Standard and tell them when the football coverage improves or they hire quality reporters I will renew.

I guess I just don't get all of that out of the articles you pointed out.

I just read the AAM article and thought it was fair. I think some fans who followed the team this year might have been asking themselves where AAM has been so far this year. The article did a solid job of answering that.

BUT...the article finishes with "For three weeks last season he was all the rage. Through three games this year Ameen-Moore is a forgotten man."

That seems unnecessary to me, and kind of ruined what was otherwise a decent piece.

I think there is some herd mentality in effect.

No there isn't--I'd say its more of a consistent pattern of negative, poorly written Cohen articles that some--not all--are reacting to.

From my point of view, he's a largely unskilled "journo."

But he is being honest with that sentence and he is correct! I am not going to knock a guy for being correct. This isn't T-Ball people where everyone gets a trophy and everyone plays and we don't hurt peoples feelings. That sentence you pointed out is tame. Go read a local newspaper in Alabama country, or Ohio St country, or Tennessee country...they are brutal!

Like it or not Syracuse is a program in a major conference and its players will be treated as such in the press. I don't see anything over the top or mean spirited in his reporting.

Because Syracuse's offense was pretty bad the first 2 games and it does raise the question why isn't this guy who has played in the past and helped this team win, not on the field now.

If you think Cohen woke up and decided he was going to write an article to make a player feel bad that is some naive thinking right there.

You read those papers? Because I rarely see local rags with a negative slant dissing players and trying to create controversy where there is none.

Cohen is an assclown

that's kind of funny hearing this after listening to Bud cry on the radio this morning saying they are still just children, and they are doing this for fun. While he is right in a sense him even trying to make this point over the radio made him come off as old and out of touch. There is absolutely nothing recreational about this, and the kids would be the first ones to tell you this.

As for Cohen he hasn't made any friends. Sure it's not his job to make friends, but he needs relationships to get access, and that is something that he is very limited to right now.

The AAM seems fine to me. He isn't ripping AAM at ALL nor is he being condescending. If anything, he's questioning why the staff isn't using him. Nothing wrong with that particular article, imo.

does he cut your grass on Saturdays when the games are on?

No. But I don't get the over the top rants about some of these articles.

I think people are upset because there is no point in the article. Any fan that follows the team knows he is not playing because of a log jam at RB, and for the casual fan, well they wouldn't even know he's on the team since again he's not playing. The article seemed like it was just rubbing salt in a wound, especially the last smart a$$ sentence of the article. I guess he has to do stuff like this when his access has been cut.

How much media do you guys consumer beyond SU sports?

The state of journalism, with few exceptions, is wretched. Newhouse, schmuhouse - aspiring reporters (and their editors, too) see what sells and what kinda of media-types are being rewarded with primetime shows and seven figure contracts.

Lower your expectations.

Bingo...and too many of his articles have that nasty slant.

It's correct, but does it really need to be said? What real purpose does it serve other than to demean the player unnecessarily? If the writer feels he needs to print a concluding graph that's as blunt as those two lines, then he/she hasn't done a thorough job of reporting and needs to revise. This is why Guys like Cohen and Mink NEED experienced, professional editorial oversight. If Cohen had that, I think he could be a star.

And I do understand that other papers are more raggish than what we have here and I am thankful for that.
