so the big question is how much does the oline get fixed in 1 week

WMU is going to blitz and force TD to the right and try to take away the left and middle of the field. Until the O can show they can counter that, teams will continue doing it...especially if there is any difficulty running the ball.

I expect the OL to get better as the season progresses which is a good thing, but how fast they do is a big question mark. And again I can't stress enough that they do get stronger as the game goes on while the D tires but to take advantage of that you have to actually move the ball or it's a moot point.

Think of it like a video game. The OL starts with 6 power points and depending on the DL theirs will vary. Clemson starts with 10 and as they tire they should go down but since there were not enough drives to tire that 10 to a 6 and knock that power down, it didn't go down so they could not move the ball. Plus, you can only go so fast on 3 and outs. you need to get first downs to pick up that steam to get the locomotive running.

Vs WMU...their DL will start with a 6 or 7 and if SU can move the ball they will tire and go down to a 4 or 5 and the more SU moves the ball the lower the number will get. If they don't move the ball and it'll be a stalemate, just we saw many times vs Liberty. This is one reason why I don't like the jumbo package, if the D is gassed keep the metal to the floor and don't let them bring in rested players.

On a side note.....I remember teams that attacked Nassib would try to blitz and take away his vision to his receivers, he had a heck of an arm but no touch. I see teams doing that to TD but what I see from him is a better touch and about as good of an arm so throwing over the LB/DB can be accomplished if given time to do so.

This is the type of opponent that Dino will really put the pressure on his OL to be better than their DL. They should be more talented. They should be able to move them on runs and give TD more protection. I also assume there will be better blitz pickup and some hot routes for TD.

There will be more opportunity for the offense this game - I don't think WMU has the personnel to do what Maryland and Clemson did (press man). If they do, I expect our WR's to eat them up.

Yes, our goal line strategy is as if we had the talent of Alabama. Until we develop a power running Oline then we are going to lose points that should be on the board if we used different strategies. Our play calling must improve; going forward!

yes, I hate that package where we narrow the field and even if you block everyone and they're on the ground, there's still little to no space to run. I'd rather spread them out and give the back the option to run inside or outside. if you put 2 WR's by the sidelines, you're basically taking 2 defenders out of the play to tackle the runner. Mentioned it last year on the coaches show.

This is somewhat related. Was Elmore out there? I know he is viewed as a good blocker. Is he hurt or was he overshadowed by the oline's breakdown?

we know the blitz schemes cause an issue.. we dont know whether it was protection calls or mental mistakes. Some of the slides made no sense but the calls are the calls and how much leeway do they have on the fly?

the Rb calls out based on what the sidelines says as well. did the coaches call in a protection that added to the problem? did the player do the wrong thing?

so many variables.

Mistakes on 60% or more of the pass protections. then sometimes they just missed a block.

lets hope they eliminate 50% of the physical mistakes just because Clemson is Clemson and WMU is a step down from Maryland too.
lets hope they eliminate 25% of the scheme mistakes.

given that we have 30-40% more plays less doomed. is that dooable?

WMU is going to send people and we have to have some plays designed to handle that.. the Screen game needs to hit when its called.. Clemson we had one perfect call and the Clemson dude knocked it down.

lets hope we have a few slants called cause they too are home run plays against blitzes.

take the 3-5 yd pass plays and move the ball if we have too.

I'm dying to see some slants and us attacking the middle of the field with short to intermediate, quick-hitter routes. Really important to exploit that if people are pinning their ears back and attacking you.
