Why would this affect Hop and Red?

It would affect Hop only if it could be proven that JB knew something. At that point, the University could can the whole regime to avoid association with the past.

I still think Hop is fairly bulletproof, and I don't think JB really knew anything, but who can predict how this mess will turn out?

I'm reminded of the line from Men in Black, which I'll paraphrase to relate to the current situation; "three months ago, you KNEW that Bernie Fine was not a child molester. Two weeks ago, you KNEW that Laurie Fine was an innocent party. Think of what you'll "know" tomorrow"

As for Red, I was just referring to the fact that he unknowingly stepped into a giant soap opera

There is also the question that JB may not have seen these kids in Bernie's room on road trips, but he had to know they were actually ON the road trips, right? Or are we positing that JB is so distant that he doesn't even know who is in the traveling party for games? The whole thing could be crushing to the program.

Real question is this: From a RECRUITING standpoint are we better with JB or without JB going forward? I have to think this will essentially terminate the program in terms of ability to compete at the elite level. It may not even matter if JB stays or not. Who in their right mind would come to SU after this?

JB and BF not close personally. BF ran the backroom ( camp, players attendance in class, grades, summer jobs, travel , relations with BB alumni etc etc etc)...and he did an outstanding job with it. Jim and BF dont go to lunch, dont attend the same parties, dont go to each others houses, etc. Jim bought the house at Tiffany first, a few yrs later Bernie moved in across the st. Jim was like... What ?...do not assume these guys were personally close. Bernie always did and OUTSTANDING job for him. Jim asked Bernie if the allegations were true in 02, again in 05 and again last week. The answer he always got was no. Prior, Bernie had always told Jim the truth...he was his longtime right hand man, a trusted right hand man. So, Jim went to bat. And, remember Davis lied about the hotel room. JB will be ok.
