So what's the verdict on losing G McDonald?

Ludicrous. You can't pin that on Marrone.

So it was whose failure that our only QB (who wasn't a freshman) couldn't throw the ball? Why did Shafer and Lester take on the Oklahoma transfer after Marrone left? Because they were enamored with Hunt?

It's not all on either regime - but our QB issues can be traced directly to Marrones inability to find a Nassib replacement. And maybe Shafers inability to hold on to that kid from TX.

Come on. Hunt and Wilson were Marrone kids.

Kimble was a Shafer flip from Northern Illinois on January 28. a few days before signing day. And because Zach Allen bailed. And he's now gone and transferred.

AJ Brown - Shafer. True freshman, had been on campus what 8 months.

There's really not much to go on yet. Lester has only been coaching 2 of these kids for 2 seasons (and Hunt missed the season) and 1 kid for 1 season.

He was being sarcastic.

Well sure. Him letting McDonald go was an indictment - an acknowledgement - that he made a mistake.

I didn't think that was in question.
Sometimes people make mistakes. Not all mistakes need to be elevated to the level of an "indictment".

Remains to be seen if we missed on these kids. Shaf recruited south Florida for Marrone. My hunch is well be fine down there but if we get 3 kids from Georgia and none from south Florida it'll be a wash

Check out Penn State's class. Every recruit is from their traditional "backyard" (PA, NYC Metro, DC, MD, and VA). If we get 10 NJ and PA kids instead of any from S. Florida, that's okay with me. Better schools up here (outside of Camden and Trenton) and better chance of getting eligible and staying eligible.

I'd agree with that.

I think we did a good job recruiting our 'traditional' area this year. Between NJ, NY, PA, CT and Mass we brought in 13 kids. That's not bad and it's good to see us push back into CT and Mass. Not that there's a lot of prospects in New England but we've had zero presence there for a while now.

We are going back to our roots that made us a northeast power back when things were right with the world. Sprinkle in a few FL kids each year which anyone can get and we will be golden. Dominate PA,NJ,NY and the northeast...and keep working the midwest angle.

For the millionth time, NOT with the talent SU has. Enjoy the OSU-type offense that you will see next year.
You and I both know we're going to see more of the "traditional" Syracuse offense we've all come to know and tolerate.

Ohio State

What our offense will be is not going to resemble what they have at all...

...mostly because we are not 4 QB's deep that have NFL first round talent coached by the arguably the best HC/QB coach in all of college football...

...also because we aren't 4 RB's deep with true NFL talent and game breaking ability to take it to the house every time they touch the ball.

We won't have 4.4 speed at just about every skill position, we won't have an OL stocked with NFL talent throughout the 2 deep...

Someone tell me again how we will resemble Ohio State?!

The biggest loss in all of this I think is actually that we're moving away from that. "Spread shotgun crap all day" actually works really, really well in college football.

I'm really looking forward to playing a ball control, field position game next season. And by looking forward to it, I mean that whenever I think about it my body starts curling in to the fetal position, and I weep.

It also helps to have a coach who knows what he is doing.

i have no problem with mcd's departure. immature, at best and i felt he could be a divisive influence on the staff. not sure we lost that much.---i do wish him success. my biggest concern is has hcss matured through this process and the grown through the issues from last year. his maturity is of the up most importance to take the defined leadership role --ceo---of the coaches and not a member of the band. i am rooting for him---big time

Miami's WR coach just jumped to Seattle. McDonald should have waited past signing day!

Why? He lasted less than a month at Arky.

Arkansas, SU and NCSt could just have been part of a weird quadruple-jump to get back to where he came from.

Next man up and for now, that next man is Acosta. Liking what we've seen so far.

That was implied.

What pisses me off is that PSU didn't miss a beat with their recruiting in the NE. They still dominate recruiting in NJ. Even guys who committed to SU changed their tune and jumped as soon as PSU offered. If their scandal didn't change the mindset of some recruits against going there, I don't know what will.

I know it's a different circumstance, but i'm just as shocked that Pitt's 2015 recruiting class was decimated like our 2013 class was when Marrone left. If anything Narduzzi kicked it up a bit, and signed some very highly touted local players.

We have a lot of work cut out for us in regards to recruiting, and so far I haven't seen the development that can make up for inferior recruiting.

Hiring James Franklin had a big impact there. Guy is Schianoesque in his recruiting approach but he actually has the PSU aura behind him.

When you hire someone who lacks intergrity, it's amazing what you can accomplish in the short-term. But those zits tend to rise to the surface over time.

Franklin's the 4th best coach in his division. The days of PSU as a national power are done.
