While I was in timeout I saw an ESF sticker (ironically on a SUV with one person in it) on the 5 and was wondering who else here was smart enough to go to the University with the longest name and largest campus by land holding?

For the record, when people ask where I went to school I say ESF, then when they invariably ask "what's that", I respond with the full State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse University.

I love the largest campus in the world trivia answer too. Even though wiki says some jerkwater college in Ga, if you add the acreage of Cranberry Lake Biological Station, The Ranger School in Wanakena, Newcomb properties, the Thousand Islands Biological Station, LaFayette Rd. Forest, Ellis, Heidberg Forest in Tully, Warrensberg, and the land in Costa Rica it is way more than the 27.000 ha that Berry College claims is the largest campus.

So if you have gotten drunk on the NYS tab at TGIF, heard of this kid named Eustace B. Nifkin, or have told folks not to walk across the quad, please add your handle to this thread.

well we have a one armed pet squirrel named Stumpy, does that count?

Resources Mgt. Could never land a job in my field. Got an MBA and had a nice career in Finance. At least I was still working with the green!

Not a stumpy but could tell a few stories...including about things that grew in closets in the stumpy house.;)

The Tree House up the hill on Lancaster I presume?

well, I graduated from ESF, but the "real" stumpys" never considered LA's one of them. At least when I was there

Weird, were not almost all your classes in Marshall? I was FCH so I also wasn't a real super granola ES type.

I did take dendrology though, I considered it mandatory. I love saying things like Metasequoia glyptostroboides and Liriodendron tulipifera and Liquidambar styraciflua.

As you might guess from my Syracusefan moniker, I'm an ESF grad.

Lived with one of the SU lax players (high school classmate from JE) for three semesters, then lived in the Ranger house. I was one of the last few to live in the Ranger house on Standart before it was torn down. The Woodsmen house across the parking lot on Oakland was a frequent stop on my drunken journeys, as well.

Let's just say I was well-prepared for ASU and WVU after that.

Me and my girlfriend are both chemistry majors at ESF. We just entered our senior years and will be graduating in the spring. Cusefan95 , I believe we met at the BET this past year!

Does your degree say that?

I hope you pronounce Metasequoia better than you spell it :)

Oh, the vagaries of being a taxonomy snob...

Oh man, I even looked back to double check -1.

I failed you Dr. Leopold :(

Did you take Drugs from the Wild? That class was awful. It was taught by jose giner I believe.

ESF biochem major (B.S. '71; M.S. '74), but we were not really stumpies in the way it has usually been interpreted. Back in those days, we were also officially SU students and got SU diplomas also.
By the way, Don L. was a doctoral classmate of mine at Purdue long ago and remains a good friend.

I didn't take Drugs from the Wild. The options for chemistry electives are really few and far between, though. We're just taking a 496 class for our chemistry elective, which is a special topics class. I haven't had much experience with Dr. Giner. Everyone says that Inorganic isn't going to be very fun with the person who's teaching it, but I also don't have any past knowledge of how her classes are. So, I really can't make any judgement

Forest Biology -Entomology. I lived in Lawrinson for three years, Roosevelt and Louie were two doors down when they were freshman and played on an intramural softball team with Marty Brynes that won the university championship. Marty was a great center fielder and mean cleanup hitter.
