So who's worse in their freshman year - DC2 or Fab?

I don't think you can use the the generic term "MickeyD'ers" and apply the criteria to everyone. Bigs have a much different learning curve as opposed to your "MickeyD'er" who is a 1, 2, 3 or 4 and can come in right away an make a huge impact. Also bigs are so different in personality. Some are strictly defensive specialists, some are offensive weapons (though rarely do you see a true post-up center anymore). Some of the comapisons don't seem quite fair. This has been JB's philosophy in developing bigs forever, yet we analyze it to death each season. Most of the bigs turn out fine, with many exceeding our expectations. Everyone relax. Now is this success attributed to Bernie's work with them? That's another question...

I generally disagree. I'm not saying that he should be an impact or a significant contributor, but certainly, imo, to be more of a factor than he is. He was a Mickey D recruit. Craig Forth was nowhere near as highly ranked as Coleman was coming out of high school and he started every game (including his freshman year). More importantly than the starts, he actually played legitimate game minutes when it mattered. And, as I'm sure you're aware, we were a top level team when Forth was a freshman as we won the national championship. The following year we went to the Sweet 16...

Well, Forth was a freshman in 2001-2002, where he averaged 5 points and 5 boards in 22 minutes a game. And that team went to the NIT. Which kind of describes how important it is to have a soph big man, as you pointed out for the 02-03 season...

Coleman has started every game this year.

You have to take into account who the roster competition is. For the frosh Forth it was Billy Celuck and a Soph Jeremy McNeil.

For DC II its a soph RAK (a McDonald's AA center caliber player) and junior Keita (a kid who came in low on the radar, but who had played at Oak Hill no less).

If DC II came into the roster situation that Forth did as a frosh, I would be willing to bet DCII would have pulled down as many minutes a game as his conditioning would have allowed.

You certainly make some valid points. I guess I just thought Coleman would be somewhat more than he is at this stage late in January. I know he starts every game, but it really is inconsequential since he gets yanked within a couple of minutes and hardly sees the floor again for the remainder of the game. The only reason he was put back in on Saturday vs. 'Nova was due to Keita fouling out, and, this was a game in which Keita basically didn't contribute anything. With our center position being the so-called weakest link, I just find it a bit disappointing that such a highly ranked recruit in Coleman, to date, can't get "real" playing time when it matters. I could see it if Rak & Baye were a force out there, but that's hardly the case. Just my opinion... :noidea:

Damn I miss Arinze and his 65% shooting around the rim. None of the shots were that hard (although he defintely knew how to use his weight in the post), but watching our big man struggle with chippies is so annoying.

Freshman Arinze?

No I am talking about the post redshirt version. And I am not talking about improvement or who will be better -- just merely comparing the automatic finisher we had in 2008/2009/2010 vs the current status in the middle.

Freshman Arinze finished very well around the basket. And he played important minutes in Big East games.
