So with WVU set to leave now

Do we have any guarantee that the buyout cost after next season will be any less that what WVU paid to get out right now? The Big East leadership is bitter over us leaving and could just be outright @$$holes by saying that they are willing to let us out a year early at the same cost as WVU. I honestly believe they could care less about how many teams are in the conference for that one extra year. This isn't about being good for the development of the football team by being in the Big East for one more year anymore. It goes far beyond that now. At the very least, there needs to be discussions going on at the University about getting out now. If it's not economically feasible, then so be it.

It's all a money grab for Providence and the basketball onlies.

And the ACC offers something the BE doesn't have. Leadership.

So you really believe that the supposed lack of leadership caused Miami, Va Tech and BC to leave the BE and begin the process of re-alignment?

Here's a question...

It's been widely reported that Marinatto and gang have essentially cut-off Cuse and Pitt reps from all conference planning meetings and decision making discussions.

I'm no lawyer and don't know the specifics of the conference by-laws and contracts for member schools, but I'd like to think (if true) that exclusion from meetings and decision processes is a major breach of contract.

I.e. Let's file a lawsuit and walk now and pay nothing... and let the courts sort it out a few years from now... we'll likely end up paying something, but it won't be the ransom Marinatto wants I bet...

Also, they let a team skirt the 27 month waiting period . This should be another breach of contract.

the best thing we have going for us is marinatto-

guy is no forest gump-if he was i would be worried

No. WVU and the BE amended the contract with their settlement agreement - a shorter term for the cash payment. This has no direct effect on us (other than providing a plan as to how we might get out).

looks like if su has a decent legal team the big east is dead in the water-

they have established a monetary figure that will buy you out-so if su can find the funds we cant be held-and who is too say a payment plan cant be done

they have also hurt us by letting wv out early and removing any say we have in the league-this also sounds like a slam dunk for us-

i almost think this isnt over quite yet-2012 football just may be acc if the good doctor and the troll get aggressive

Unless SU had no say in the negotiations and by allowing wv to leave they did cause SU damage by negligence due to scheduling.

Cuse and Pitt no longer are concerned about the Big East's 27 month waiting period relative to any breach since the Big East has just set precedent over that entire stronghold, which they no longer sustain due to their voluntary settlement with WVA.

Why the hell is WVFU willing to pony up some dough and we aren't? I wonder if the ACC would be willing to help out like the B12 is?

The Big 12 *NEEDS* West Virginia to play a Big 12 conference schedule this year. Otherwise their TV deal could be re-opened, and not in a positive way. This is why the B12 is going to pay $9 million of the $20M to get WVU out.

The ACC has no such immediate need, and therefore really has no reason to shell out ~$18M for a smiliar deal.

and don't forget that they also let TCU walk without paying a single penny.

The Big12 is ponying up to help WVU with the exit fee because they have to get them in for this year to salvage their TV contract. ACC doesn't have the same problem.

Yep...no urgency for the ACC to pony up anything at this time.

If they don't let us out after next season ... the BE will have 19 BB teams for 2013-14. They'll have to split the BB TV money pie 19 ways (instead of 16).

They'll let us go.

Yep, and the ACC is making a major shift in that it will be scheduling more conf football and hoops games. So they announce that now and give everyone a year to let it sink in, plan accordingly with non conference schedules. Give them some time to negotiate and get their new TV contract all setup.

I'm afraid that we'll all be stuck in at least one more meaningless Big Least season for table scrap $. Really the only positive we can get out of it is to win the football league on the way out.

It's not a breach of contract for us to lose our right to vote after giving notice that we are leaving. It's not a breach of contract for them to keep our conference sports pay-outs and apply them to our exit fee.

What could be actionable is them treating us unfairly - e.g. having to play 2 road games against the same opponent in football, for instance, or screwing us in some obvious way like not letting us participate in the conference tournament at the Garden. Those kinds of acts might get us out immediately.

Agree. Getting out in time for next year is a big ask right now, and the ACC didn't have the TV problem that the Big 12 has/had. However, if Louisville is announced to the Big 12 in the next few days for the following year, along with say BYU, then you never know. I don't think ESPN wants us to be lame ducks in the Big East for too long. Gets too awkward for their programming.

The ACC is not going to pony up $18M to get SU and Pitt one year early.

One reason they settled is that it looks like BSU is ready to go next year. It mitigates the harm to the BE and if it went to trial would be part of the equation on the judgment.

Are there two additional teams ready to join the BE in 2012?

ugh, it's part of the by-laws, it's not a breach.
