Um, who is Stauskus gonna guard when he's on the floor?

Will MCW post up Burke early to send a message?

Would love to block Stauskas' first three...I think it would crush him...he was 2-16 from three prior the elite 8 game.

Gotta keep Baye out of foul trouble. McGary is going to be a problem.

James is going to get his looks, he's got to make them in this game. GOT TO.

What do we do when they send the guy to the foul line...our center will attack, but will the guards help or stay at home. KEY defensive strategy here.

Where will we set up the high screen? Foul line? or closer to the top of the key?

What do we do on the offensive glass? Defensive transition is crucial. Brandon might not be allowed to crash the glass...making our shot selection more critical.

Can we get a solid 6-7 minutes out of Cooney and Grant?

I'm excited that Mich will go man to man for 40 minutes - and try to push tempo. Hurried misses almost always lead to a counter attack and open looks for James.

I think our magic number is 73 points...have to hit that and I think we'll need 6-7 threes to get there. Going to have to shoot well.

Have to wonder if JB's calmness throughout the week will have a calming affect on the team. Is his fourth trip, with 4 totally different types of teams.

JB is 3-0 in the semi's...would love to keep the record clean.

I was feeling pretty confident until I read that. Now I am scared!

1. Stauskus would guard Triche I would think. Brandon may be able to bully him but he is 6'6, not a little guy like Hulls. If I were Michigan Triche wouldn't be real high on my worry list. 2. I've been wondering if we've had MCW posting a lot in practice this week. It's one of those things that sounds good in theory, but it's hard to do something you haven't done all year. Kind of mixed emotions about it. 3. I'm worried about Mcgary too, mainly on the offensive boards and his ability to finish. I bet Mich flashes Hardaway to the foul line a lot and put MM on the baseline. That is a tough cover for us IF (big if) they can actually get it to the foul line. I also think we need to put MM at the line rather than let him finish. 45% shooter.

I'm worried, we've never won a National Championship in a year when Pitino's had a team in the Final Four as well.

I'm going to beg to differ on your 73 comment based somewhat on our defensive stats and Michigan's offensive stats.. In the last 19 games we have only given up more than 66 points twice. 74 to Marquette and 78 to Louisville which we know were both losses. Michigan has scored more than 73 in only eight of the last 17 games so they really aren't a huge offensive juggernaut that a lot people think they are. In fact the over opened at 130 and moved to 131 so if we listen to the Vegas experts, we only need to score 66 to win.

Plus I think there is some merit to Beilein's 0-9 record vs JAB. He has yet to find a way to defeat the 2-3 zone and although this UM team is probably his most talented team to face Syracuse, our 2-3 zone is really humming. I'm not saying his team will struggle like Indiana, but I think they will have some problems getting open baskets. I fully expect them to hit some deep threes early, but as we have seen in the last 20 or so years, the percentages eventually work in our favor.

Michigan opened up as a 2.5 pt favorite and it went down to two. I say take the Cuse with the points and an outright 70-65 win.

Cuse wins this with ease.

Jake, are you going to Atlanta?

And has anyone heard from Bees? Haven't seen him posting much, Final Four week and all.

Good points. My only qualification would be that if MI struggles it's might not be all Beilein's fault. Having a young team that hasn't seen anything comparable to this, could mentally unravel the youngsters.

Stauskas guards Southerland I'm sure. Since James is not a threat to put the ball on the floor and create, I don't think it will be a problem for Stauskas.

Fair vs Robinson is the matchup we need to win
James on Stauskas is an athletic and height mismatch in SU's favor. James is much quicker and he must exploit that match up and have a good scoring game. If James can be aggressive and get hot, UM may have to take Stauskas off the floor for a more athletic bench player. I like the CJ vs. Robinson match up too.

I hear ya but I sort of agree with samspann. I doubt we see James put in the floor. Would be nice but ain't gonna happen. Stauskas is deceptively athletic, imo. Maybe he can post him up?

Stauskas will be on James. Beilein would be flat out stupid to put him on Triche. He would blow by him every time. Brandon is going to attack the rim and James is going to shoot jumpers. Stauskas guards James IMO. Cj has the best matchup advantage if you ask me. He should school Glenn Robinson. If we score 73 I think that would be great, but I don't think the pace will allow it. I think this game is in the 60's max.

just curious why everyone thinks Stauskas is so unathletic? Because he's a white guy?

The issue wont be guarding James on the drive it will be chasing him off the screens and pops. But James has been showing the last few weeks the want to take the ball to create some shots. Since feb Mich is allowing over 70 a game so we can score given just decent shooting.

So far, we have had the tougher road to the Final Four than any of the other teams, & Michigan had to get lucky to beat Kansas.

This Michigan team is not even better than Indiana.

We can lose, but it won't be because they dominated us. it will be Syracuse not playing with enough defensive intensity.

I think CUSE wins if they play their defense & score 62-70 points.

I have seen Michigan play a lot this year. Stauskas struggles against teams with athletes. Ohio State completely shut him down. He usually guards the other teams spot up shooter. Hardaway and Burke are on the guys that attack the rim.

This game boils down to a battle of tempo and Michigan's offensive quantity versus our defensive quality.

Since the beginning of March Michigan is 7 - 2, averaging 60.8 shots per game (in regulation), only taking less than 57 once and that was 55 shots in their first round game against mighty S. Dakota St.
Since the beginning of the BE Tournament we are 6 - 1, averaging 48.5 shots of our own per game and limiting our opponents to an average of 53 shots per game (also in regulation). The high point was our lone loss in that span, to UL who took 57 shots.

So the way I see it, our best chance to win is too protect the ball and keep Michigan off our boards. If we mellow the tempo and limit the Wolverines to the low to mid 50s in number of shots, then we win. There is no doubt in my mind that we can and will be the more efficient offensive team, we just can't let them run up their quantity.
