Someone Had To Do It: Miami Attendance

A friend of mine told our group chat that this is the first time since 1992 that we've had two teams in the Dome with at least 8 wins. It's the biggest game we've had in 32 years!
That cannot be true

That's not fathomable to me

Hard to believe, but some folks put time with family ahead of FB.
Well, my twin 17 year old sons are up at 6 am to tailgate all day before every home game. And thats after we travel 4 hours to cny the night before. This weekend they are missing 2 varsity bb practices to do so. Family can be a 'part' of fb too!, doesn't have to be one or the other! I know, Im very lucky tough, my kids are as diehard as me.

Nice they have a coach that allows that.

Some don't see bigger picture stuff.

This cannot be overstated. Far too many don't see that bigger picture. Im a high school teacher and coach, and I see it every day when coaches don't let their players live. Kids need to be afforded the opportunities with friends and family. They will remember those moments a lot more than a random 'mandatory' practice

You can tailgate and attend the game together as a family. High quality family time in every sense of the word.
Really? Not everyone in every family likes any of those things. Add in the expected weather, prime XMas shopping weekend, etc.
No one else in my family cares about FB, at all. One of my sons is home. If I catch parts of the game on TV I’ll be surprised.

Well, then in your case, I cannot imagine anyone with any heart at all would 'shame' you for not going to the game saturday whatsoever. And if they do, I'd say shame the hell on them, and get some compassion. You gots to do what you gots to do, fam first. Happy Turkey day Tuttle and fam

No one else cares *yet.*

There's a lot of stuff going on at a game to pique different interests. A couple years ago I brought my self-described "little old lady" mother to a game as a way to hang out with my aunt. Not only is she one of the least likely demographics to be interested in football, I think she had some concern over it due to the injury potential (I've had concussions...)

Anyway, not only did she get plenty of time to chat and gossip with my aunt, but she loved the half-time show, the cheerleaders' acrobatics, the dance crew, and the bacon grilled cheese and apple cider cocktails at the tailgate. Since then she's come back maybe half a dozen times and is starting to get invested in the game and various players (e.g., "Marlowe's healthy!", or "look at that recruit with his parents! they're so invested!") Even during the reseating she wanted lots of updates to make sure we didn't get a worse view.

Anyway, I obviously don't know you or your family and maybe there's really nothing there, but at least in my case I was surprised by how much was under the surface, the kind of stuff that doesn't really come across on TV.

I'm not gonna lie. Main reason I like people from the opposing team there is so I can tell them the sink is voice activated and hit the foot pedal on and off.

Doesn’t work with WV fans though b/c they don’t even know what a sink is.

It goes both ways, though. They should know it’s important to you and look for ways to compromise or accommodate. Any family member or in-law that plays the “family comes first” all-or-nothing mantra and tries to make you feel bad is not true family. Avoid at all costs.

Syracuse fans have been a huge let down this year probably why Fran leaves after a few more years. He wants support deserves it and if he doesn't get it he will leave.
All we need is a shiny number next to our name and the Dome will be jam packed like in 2022 barring any epic collapses, again like 2022.

You and I both know that's silly but that's just the way it is apparently. Fran will have us at a place where the bandwagoners will be excited. And we do have a die hard base of like 30k that always go no matter what, and we travel well too.

Try not to worry about that my friend, let's enjoy this.

Nonsense. Do you really think he expected the Dome to be full game in game out after the past years? He knows perfectly well that it takes more than one season to rebuild a program and to rebuild fan support. Winning cures all ills and rebuilds fan support.

No. Syracuse fans have been more than patient for basically 20 years of suck. Going to games and not getting much back from the team. Every time we have had a big game, like this weekend, we have been blown out for 20 years. And while this year has been fun, we aren't 10-1. We are 8-3. Before Fran can complain about fans or lack of support, win a game like Saturday. Or win a game or two on the road against the stiff competition that we will be playing next year. Until then, save the blast on our fans. They don't deserve it yet.

I didn't see your post but I was writing much the same thing.

I love it when opposing teams bring a ton of fans into the Dome. It makes the entire experience more entertaining. It feels like a heavyweight fight.

Virginia Tech used to travel so well on that trek up I-81. This year, that section was full of tumbleweed and crickets.

Agreed but UCONN was a disgrace.

I'm not buying that excuse. We didn't have 30k in the seats on Saturday.

It's not a matter of buying it. It is a fact. And the shame of people not running to see UConn play. The Red Sox stopped spending and stopped winning and guess what, people stopped going. We haven't even had the first part yet. Our fans have had the ball pulled away every time we get up for a game the last 20 years. And almost every time, we have been smoked. It takes time to bring the casual fan back.
