Someone Had To Do It: Miami Attendance

Until something changes, I am very skeptical we will ever sell out the tickets AND have a capacity crowd at a football game again. There's many possible factors, but #1 is the pricing and availability of tickets.

The overall game experience and tickets are severely overpriced, and the tickets are digital, so until that changes we won't have a capacity crowd ever again. The Holy Cross "sell out" (where we had ~36,000 people in attendance) was so ridiculous to me.

The concession prices are solely the university's fault- the 16oz beer cans are $16 and mixed drinks are $23. I asked for a cup with my beer and they told me an empty cup would be an additional $23 because of how they operate. Who would want to deal with all that BS unless they are a die hard Cuse football fan??

But to me, the digital ticketing price bubble is really the major issue- our fans are getting raked over the coals. Most people don't know Seatgeek prices are vastly higher than ticketmaster's prices, especially casual fans that we want to bring into the fold with us. Ticketmaster's prices are marked up 20% or more form what the seller designates. The digital ticketing system is truly a complete nightmare. They are causing the tickets sold online to be priced at ~150% of the asking price.

***If I put a football ticket on sale for $44, it will be on ticketmaster for approximately $70, and seatgeek for approximately $100. Although I receive $39 when the tickets sells, a buyer may pay over $100 for that same ticket on Seatgeek (maybe $80 on TM) and yet I collect $39 on that sale.

Also, we no longer have flippers outside the Dome buying and selling the last few hundreds/thousand tickets that were unspoken for.
If i want to simply give my tickets away, I need to get someone's email address, log into a digital ticket system, "send" them the ticket, and then have them create an account and password, etc, and sign up for the stupid app, just so someone can use the ticket. It is an incredibly dumb system that will continue to suppress attendance.

My tickets don't always get used because of this bad system, and even with the shrunken dome, it will be borderline impossible for us to find 44,000 upstate New Yorkers that are okay with spending a 50% premium on digital tickets, that will download the digital ticket app, pay $30 to park and then pay $16 for a can of beer.

Older fans also absolutely hate this app/digital ticket process. It is really a mix of foolish and inconsiderate that they did this and left fans with no ability to get printed tickets or to print out PDFs of their tickets. Raiders season ticket holders or SU LAX fans, etc, don't get hassled in this manner.

A lot of this is incorrect, but I have to start with this - Are you actually complaining about there no longer being scalpers outside the Dome?

The digital ticketing price bubble? That whole paragraph makes no sense. Fans will look at whatever site has the cheapest available tickets after fees, and buy them there. The issue is the secondary market is usually cheaper as people are trying to flip tickets quickly, so rather than selling unsold inventory, seats that are already sold are changing hands.

The secondary market and singles market usually pick up in the last 3 days leading up to a game. You can't really force people to buy earlier.

Paper tickets and PDFs are ripe for counterfeiting which makes an even worse experience for fans than having to log into an app. It's not a dumb system at all.

How is it harder to open an app, click "transfer tickets" and type someone's name/email, rather than having to mail your tickets or go out of your way to meet someone to hand them additional tickets?

They do love the circular urinal though
On this topic, read a few posts on the dome from some of the few UConn fans who came to the dome.

One hated the pee troughs. The rest thought they were fine.

They liked the scoreboards. Disliked the narrow concourses. Really liked the grab and go stands. Some wished UConn had something like that.

Weirdly, made no comments on the new seating or the 5g blazing fast cell service. Maybe they didn’t have phones.

They’re not used to good cell phone service in CT so I don’t blame them for that.

Also there were CT fans there? Their section seemed empty.

They have phones, but they cannot handle blazing fast service

Or teeth

No way this comes close to selling out. Too many to move in a few days. Drop them to $20 each and they’ll move. No one wants a silly $10 GC to Wegmans with their ticket as a “deal”.

I went to Heritage Hill a couple of times for the Dino show. He made a bee line for the door when the show was over. In He couldn’t wait to get out of there. Fran hangs around and talks to people. It makes a difference
Interacting with fans has to be the worst part of the job. Talking to players’ parents has to suck too. God bless him!

I heard this with Dino and now with Fran. Look…. Winning will solve this issue. The P era had great attendance…um, wonder why, in a 50k stadium.
We are now a 42k stadium. Just win, attendance will take care of itself.

And win we have done this year!

Keep building.

First time in literally forever we went the entire regular season without two loses back to back.

That says something

We are 8-3. Playing in the biggest game in years. Fan base is beyond weak

In years past, we would always say a coach who gets us to 8-9 wins consitently, we would put up a statue of him on campus. But I think it's a lot harder for the casuals to see how rare this season is. Hence why we have Wegmans gift cards and 2 for one fb/gtown deals in a 43k seat Dome

I see a lot of ppl on this board who suggest we have a 'core base of die hards' of 32-35 k season ticket holders. I think that number is actually closer to 28-30k. Add the 3-6k students (depending on opponent and time), then the maybe 2k a game casuals, and we are at what weve been all year, 35-39k sans uconn game.

Using those numbers, assuming maybe 500-800 students show up saturday, getting to 39- 40k would actually be fairly impressive. It would mean almost 8-9k casuals, which would be 7k more than most games.

It still sucks we cant get a couple more k in the door and fill it up. Its just too hard a sell for too many casuals to reach the numbers, due to myriad of reasons we all discuss here regarding shting the bed time and time again, that we need to sell out.

That's my attempt at breaking down attendance #s. It all boils down to our 'die hard' base not being as big as is commonly assumed. But what do I know.
