Someone I know has kept telling me that

Hofstra will not be a cake walk. I disagreed. Right now they are up 9 against Pitt. at Pitt
I’ve been saying this too. They’ve been shooting up the efficiency metrics and are higher rated than Colgate and Cornell, who we avoided scheduling.

The Pitt reddit postgame was their fanbase saying they're happy Capel finally did enough to get himself canned. They didn't want to live all season on this what if they turn it around nonsense. Not really recoverable at this point for them so they can start the coaching search now if they want.

If they do can Capel I wonder who they hire.

Wayne Chrebet of the NY Jets, my favorite Hofstra sports alum. Also Jay Wright was their coach and their student-run radio station used to produce and air the NY Islanders games, a strong signal for a college station. I think they had to be the only college station to be a flagship for a pro.sports franchise.

They're playing again tonight against Old Westbury.
They're up by more than 60 points (!!) in the 2nd half.

I don't care who you're playing, you have to have focus to do that.
They easily could have let up when they were up 30, but they made a point of absolutely crushing them.

I just can't. This is a statistician's dream. Or nightmare.

Fun facts:
A guy shot 1 for 6 and he actually brought the team's shooting percentage UP? That happened.

Between both teams, no one scored more than 17.
Old Westbury, 5 guys went O for...5 guys shot zero percent!
Leading scorer had 6 points. Yowsah.
Then, two guys had 5 points then it really drops off a cliff.
The team shot 22% from deep which is an actual improvement from their overall FG% of 16.
8 field goals coming from 5 assists.
20 rebounds, 15 turnovers, 13 fouls.
The only player that shot over 33.33% was the 6 point guy who shot 40%.
They went 12 players deep, take that JB!

Meanwhile, Hofstra had 57 rebounds, 18 assists, 8 steals and 7 blocks. 56 FG%, 41 3point%, and ditto 41 FT%, take that SU!

Oh and Old Westbury was 1 point away from scoring 9 total points in the first half.

Against who?

Yeah, Old Westbury. Yes, they suck.
But to win by 60, rather than 30, really shows me something, especially after they just beat Pitt at Pitt. It shows great focus and concentration, and a willingness to keep executing the hell out of the game plan, when they were up 20, 30 or 40 points, let alone 60. Do you see how it takes something more than just outclassing another team, to kick their asses like that?

It’s a division 3 team. They could have won by 100 if they wanted.

uh
Or, we could just take a moment to consider that this opposing team was likely so absurdly poor that an average d2 team would beat them by 40+

OK, so tell me about why their win at Pitt was unimpressive.
We should crush these guys, then, right?

How about theiir win at Pitt?
I was talking about an impressive follow up, regardless of the competition.
When was the last time we beat anybody by 68 points?
Our Division 3 opponents usually give us a much tougher time than this.
And, of course, we're playing these guys soon.
You act like we're Alabama football.

There’s no let down playing against a really bad d3 team, sorry. This is overanalyzing. And we don’t play that bad of teams. Our d2 teams we play aren’t close to that bad. Is it impressive to beat up on terrible teams by 70? The Pitt win was good. To credit anything about Old Westbury is not. Hofstra’s managers could probably beat them.

Hofstra is a solid team not to be taken lightly but if we played Old Westbury we would literally win by 85 points and that would be Red being a good sport. They are D3.
