I am don’t see private schools like SU being able to compete in this new world of college football.

So some schools are spending 10-20 million on new parts in addition to whatever they are spending on maintenance.

Only one school is coming out happy at the end but dozens are spending 20-30-40 million chasing it .

So many problems in the world and we have a billion to throw at kids every year.

The NCAA cannot do anything until Congress gets involved. Not sure it will happen because Congress is more dysfunctional than the NCAA on its best day.
I’m surprised that there hasn’t been more pushback against the current revenue sharing and NIL model among students and faculty, especially at public schools. Hard to justify these payouts when tuition rates have doubled over the past three decades and many universities are cutting staff to balance budgets. Not sure how sustainable it is to have starting QBs driving luxury cars around campus when a lot of their classmates are taking on an unprecedented amount of debt to finance their education.

If it doesn’t change Syracuse is done. I said it
100%
We are soon going to get a super league when SEC and BIG Ten realize they can make more and more and more money by cutting out 50-60 teams

The funny thing is you have schools like FSU (7-17) or MSU (9-15) or or Florida (12-13) who spend tens of millions in NIL to do a whole bunch of nothing over the last two years

Give MORE to us donors!!!!

As long as conferences are free to claw and maul each other trying to climb to the top of the pile, some of the madness won't go away. Law needs to be written to grant a governing body the authority to negotiate TV and all other revenue streams for the org as a whole.

Your example illustrates that the other problem is the donors. It's a demand problem, and you have to attack the demand. Not sure about how the legal angle would work out but there has to be legal limits to this, enforceable with the usual consequences. Donors need to be targeted.

QBs driving nicer cars than the average student is not a new development because of NIL.

They’re young adults, and professional athletes, not kids.

That being said, people can spend their money however they want. But I, for one, will not participate in the NIL insanity.

I’m a big fan of the writer Jeff Pearlman. He recently explained why he’ll never donate to his Alma mater Delaware’s NIL fund:

oh no my comment is the problem is the system lol

Give money to our program and players I swear we'll turn it around we just need MORE

I agree and that is why I am in the minority and don't think anything has to change. IF schools want to go insane - go crazy. Ultimately the schools will find the level of commitment they are comfortable with and adjust accordingly.

The question is will fans from the programs who choose to de-emphasize continue to attend games, contribute to NIL, etc?

Same, waste of money, I would rather give it to the food bank.
I’ll admit that I’m completely hypocritical. I want SU to find any and all boosters who will give them money to attract and retain good athletes. Because I selfishly want to watch a winning team.

At the same time, I ain’t gonna be that booster. When I give money to SU it’s to support their academic mission.

I don’t judge anyone who wants to give to their money to SU’s NIL. Most of those people also donate to incredibly good causes. I’m thrilled some people give to SU sports because it helps my enjoyment of a pastime. I just won’t do it.

Just like I won’t give Bob Kraft money to give Drake Maye a contract extension. I’ll buy tickets & merch, and I’ll watch the games on TV driving up the value of media rights. But I’m not cutting Kraft a check outside of his other revenue streams. The college NIL model seems batspit crazy to me.

and that's why we need to just dump the NCAA as it is dead
get a commish, let the players get a union etc
deal with it as a pro sport, becuase it is

55 man rosters?

At which point I don't need two pro football leagues and I will just enjoy the NFL. If Syracuse drops down to a regional league and there is no longer any Nil insanity, I will keep my season tickets.
