Sorry Nate Mink

Not sure I'm agreeing with you here.
I think he knows in his heart of hearts it has to be Shrader but he is giving Tommy every possible chance he can to prove himself.

Their dynamics and what he must have promised that family to get a commitment must be something else.

If you don't go with Shrader he probably leaves the program.

You're already losing DeVito next year anyways. I'm bullish on Morgan and Lamson potential, but do you risk losing two guys when you only need to lose one?

I think we see Tex or Morgan transfer next year. So if they do and you don't bring in a QB, and you lose Shrader on top of DeVito, you are left with an empty cupboard again.

Let’s be honest he already made the choice before Ohio. Based on pure reps you cannot honestly cannot say TD was not always DBs choice.

Probable but not definite. Coming off a 1 win season, he may have just started with the safe choice to try to eek out 2-0 and use Albany as the first real action for Shrader. All the while, with GS getting more practice reps and learning the offense a bit more each of those first couple weeks.

You are correct Tommy is the choice and always has been. Better hope one of the freshman can play, because Shrader will be gone after the Liberty game.

As I said in another thread. Basically this seems like it’ll be TD no matter what. He can’t play badly against Albany or that shouldn’t happen at all. So he’s going to play well so how could you sit him after that. “Picking” the QB moving forward, using Albany as the game to decide that is ridiculous. It’s already been decided IMO. This is all just show.

One thing to keep in mind with Shrader for those speculating about him leaving if he doesn't get the job, he has already used his free transfer. So he'll need to sit a year if he transfers on the FBS level. Of course, he could go to the FCS level and play right away.

What makes you think Devito will leave after this year? If Babers isn't fired. Devito may very well be back.

If he can’t win a starting job here I’m pretty sure his FBS QB days are over.

The stuff Dino is saying does not inspire confidence. He's waffling, and equivocating, and apologizing.
I just spent the past 3 months watching Bill Belichick decide between Cam Newton and Mac Jones. Now, I completely get that college ain't the NFL, and the situations are wildly different. However, I can see all the flaws in the way Dino is handling this when contrasted against a HoF coach who seemed to have handled it excellently.

I'm no coach, but I can tell the difference between good and bad. This seems bad.

Shrader can't transfer again without sitting out. But why would he leave anyways since he'd start the next two years here.

He’ll pick Tommy. Haters will use every bad throw as a told you so until we beat Liberty. Shrader will stay because he’ll be the starter next year and if he leaves it will be because he’s seen one of the young guys kill it.

1) There's like three "haters". The other 99% of us just want a functional QB and the team to win.
2) I can't believe we've made LIBERTY the be-all, end-all of this season. How about winning 4 in the ACC? My goodness.

We are barely even talking about the joy of college football here. So much soap opera dynamics. Not accusing anyone of anything. It's just the state of the program and it sucks. That non-performance at the Rutgers game really took the wind out of my SU sails.

I'd rather we were enthusiastically discussing how Alford catches anything thrown near him, or Gadsden always gets in space or Tucker might go for 200 on Sat. or some recruit who's interested in us cuz we're winning.

Nope. Instead we've got a great kid in TD who for whatever reason is not a DI-A gamer. We look askance at our coach for his dubious schemes/calls/recruiting. It's just the way it is right now, but it's been too long and seems hardly necessary.

The Rant:
Should never have fired Coach P, but aspirational Gross had visions of grandeur he was going to self-create. We were going to be USC East and involved in the "National" conversation. Coach P was so established with HS coaches (we had Ray Rice till they fired him). It's been a dismal run of bad luck. Hiring a guy (Robinson) who was out of his depth as a HC, the good and seemingly long term hire of Marrone dashed by his wife's dislike of CNY and NFL non-recruiting, Shafer (was supposed to be like the Coach P ascension) and then we land HCDB who appears to be on his way to something beyond adequate and somehow the keys are given to promising, but woefully underachieving QB - remember when TD threw that INT against Clemson in the Dome deep in Clemson territory right after Trill intercepted that pass to give us momentum before a full house. What was that and many other moments (the Maryland game that year?). Yes, much of this is self-inflicted and not all on TD. Plenty of dysfunction to go around. But from a long time fan's perspective this is simply rotten. Jake Crouthamel knew what he was doing. And yes, it was a different landscape then and maybe easier to navigate.

Remember when it was 3rd and long and you could anticipate a valiant and exciting attempt at making the first down, w/hungry, motivated and dynamic players? Now its all route tree business and check downs and uninspired attempts to achieve the objective of a first down. Hey, run around and play some ball out there.

Winning changes everything. I might think about a new hobby, cuz this is painful and kinda stupid. That not going for it on 4th down against Rutgers, just speaks volumes about faith in players, mindset of coaches and football as game to be clinically managed rather than a game to be riverboat gambled on occasion. Jesus, we were on Rutgers 42 yd line I think. Where's the advantage in gaining 18 yards and surrendering up the ball?

I liked it better when Coach Mac wore a suit and tie on the side lines. Oh wah. Thanks for the whine y'all.

Liberty will give us the metric to how the ACC season will go. Are we good like Ohio or lousy like Rutgers. If we play well and beat liberty with a functional offense there might be some hope. If we lose and look crappy then we are screwed. Seasons have milestones. Rutgers and liberty were two of them. If we can beat liberty there is more hope then if we lose. Albany doesn’t tell us much unfortunately especially if we run the ball 50 times. I want to see the offense opened up, we should dominate this game. Anything else and we are in back to room and gloom.

I honestly don’t know who else we can beat based on what I saw against Rutgers. maybe Wake Forest? The most disturbing thing was the lack of game plan amd some of the dumb in game decisions that we witnessed. I just don’t know if I have the confidence in the coaching staff to formulate and stick to any type of game plan.

@orangeauburn had an excellent post, I still think Shrader is starting by acc play

Depends on just how open the competition actually was.
It does seem possible that Shrader was brought here only as insurance against an injury to Devito.

"Babers said he wants to see the offense clicking on Saturday. He wants the ball to be spread around, the quarterback commanding the offense with a swagger the team wants to follow."

Devito has never demonstrated any of this...
