Spring Football Notes...

Thanks for all the notes, info, and video OX. Some hard nosed posting there. Very much appreciated.

I agree with everything you said, accept the last sentence. I was expecting Emerich to step in at the center position. I liked the idea of having continuity with the unit. Emerich must not have developed the way the staff was hoping.

Trudo can be a very good G, but can be a great C.

WR Brisly Estime listed as starting H-back. Ashton Broyld listed as starter opposite West.
So there is no speed at WR, a glorified H-back and West are the starters? Wow, get ready for a load of press coverage there. Estime playing a Darren Sproles type role can only carry an offense so far. We need a deep threat at WR badly..

I like the Morgan move to CB. Based on nothing substantial other than watching him play, he just "seems" to be more of a corner.

I'm a fan of Morgan and think he could play any secondary spot but based of numbers returning at Safety I was a bit surprised. Then again, some of the incoming frosh that show as CB's in the recruiting database may be destined to play safety.

The 2014 Syracuse football team has yet to take the field as an official unit. I wouldn't worry about the starting line up just yet.

Hey that wasn't my comparison, I can't remember who or where, but I thought that's what someone had said ?

That was what a coach told me on signing day.

I think we'll run a lot next year out of the spread set via QB, H back or RB. Having receivers that dwarf CB's will be an advantage here. As for speed, say hello to the frosh when they get here along with our 2nd team guys.

This is the spring depth chart. Not fall depth chart.

Looking at the actual depth charts reminds you just how scary thin we are at DT. IMO easily the most concerning position going into the Spring

That was what a coach told me on signing day.

ahhh I knew I just didn't make that up in my head. Personally I was looking forward to Batten at TE since you figured he would give us a pass catching threat that we don't really get from Parris or Moore.

Many of us assumed that Custis and Enoicy were being recruited as the new style hybrid TE, but both have said they were strictly recruited as a WR. Maybe we all were just assuming that we'd stick Batten at TE since he fit that style. Maybe McDonald's vision of a TE is exactly what we got last year? Going to be interesting to see what we do with the position.

Pre-spring depth chart lists Ryan Sloan at DT opposite Crume. Marqez Hodge at middle linebacker

Nate Mink‏@MinkNate4 mins
Offensive line: from left to right: Hickey, Palmer , Trudo, Knapp, Lasker

Nate Mink‏@MinkNate3 mins
Logjam at wide receiver , but Funderburk is on the 2 line behind Broyld

As a Bellport Alum I am glad to see that Sloan is getting a look. I hope he is healthy and in shape!

Scary thin at DT and fairly thin at DB. I wonder wh0 switches to DT and if any of the 3rd and 4th string WR/H-Backs move to DB. With all the touted incoming WR's, it would seem that these guys have a much better chance to get on the field at DB-I'm talking to you Keenan Hale and Sean Avant. Also a little surprised to see Flemming at 3rd string after startinbg last season as a starter. Hopefully it means our WR's will be improved.

Im hoping Isaiah Johnson get reps at DT this spring. He is already 280. He would be a athletic, under recruited DT. Sounds familiar?

If he is going to be wasted as 3rd string DE you might as well get him in the mix. He'd find far more playing time inside

I think that the staff is going to have a hard time keeping Johnson off the field next season, whether at DT or DE. Kid looks like he might be special.

Keep in mind that some of these depth chart placements may be for motivation as well. Perhaps the coaches are telling some guys to "show me something"?

Johnson will be a float along the defensive line. He will see reps at DT, just needs to bulk up and get stronger.

I'm excited about Donnie Simmons. Kid was a beast last spring before he got hurt and Daoust and Shaf both love his explosiveness.

A pre-spring depth chart is not a post-spring depth chart, let alone a pre-fall depth chart, let alone a first game of the year depth chart. Some of you guys are reading into this way too much.

Surprised no one has said it yet, but I will. If Trudo really does stay at C, Denzel Ward is going to be given a chance to win the RT spot in the fall w/ Foy moving inside to RG if he comes back. My opinion.

If, and this is a big if, that's true, wouldn't that grade out to essentially just hoping Ward can be a road grader, since I doubt he gets the tackle assignments memorized in just the fall practices? I don't know if I want to sacrifice pass protection, even if it would make Ward a likely 3 or 4 year starter. Lasker might be the way to go, and let Ward compete next year at LT or RT.

It's fun to look over and parse the depth chart and since I'm sure a lot of us (I know I am) are desperate for any kind of football news, especially something like a depth chart, I'm sure this bit of information is going to be debated until something better comes out.

DT's better stay healthy this year or SU might have to 3-4.
