Spring Game Back In The Dome

Will our fanbase ever care about the spring game?

I feel like short of coming off a final four playoff season with just about every player returning there will never be any buzz for this game or big attendance. Perhaps if we had a brand new stadium that might be a factor. Maybe if we had the consensus #1 qb recruit who graduated from high school early coming in to play that would move the needle and buzz for the event. I am not even sure if that would matter much.

I could be completely off base and maybe Fran/SU leadership has a different vision but the spring game is a non-event every year. It also seems like it has always been that way. Even when I was a student in the late 1990s when we had big east championship teams and some hype around the team. No one cared at all about the spring game. I can't speak for any other era as I was not in Syracuse in the 1950s or the 1980s when we had nationally relevant teams. Did anyone go then?

Is it really worth investing time and energy into it? DOME or the game could be played on the quad. I doubt anyone would really notice.

I am just one person but I enjoy going up for the spring game. My son and I catch up on stuff in general, you can see for example new QBs getting some reps, grab a soda and pretzel. If they wanted to collect some Nil dollars they probably could. I like going cuz it's casual.

Although the crowd size has ebbed and flowed, I agree it will NEVER be what others seem to have.

That said, if done right it could be fantastic. I personally prefer the outreach to the community style that we have had in the past. Signing sessions, pictures, etc, where people (especially kids, ie future fans) can rub elbows with players and coaches. I grew up with that, and always loved interacting with them.

No matter what so many on this board seem to think, you don’t get ANY insight or excitement on the actual football end of things. They need to have those other aspects to make the event as good as it can be.

That said, I’d be bent if it didn’t take place.

I bet attendance is stronger this year than typical based on the momentum from last year and QB competition.

Still will never be what others have been, but it can be a cool event.

I remember during the G Rob years, Gomez and Dave were pulling fans out of the stands to field punts. It was some of the funniest stuff I ever saw at a Spring game.
