Still believe we go 6-6

NC State is not a good team. The problem is SU could be going into the game on a 7 game losing streak. If we played them next week I would give us a great chance to win. But I think it will end up like last year's Pitt game (who was not good). We were coming off a bye and were the healthiest we had been since Louisville but the team had nothing left in the tank. What will we have left is we are 3-7?

I don't know. But I'm not sure last season correlates that well. Our offense was bunk - but I'm not sure it was psychological or energy related - as it was a bad system being run by a guy who didn't believe in it and injuries.

I have no idea how the young kids will respond.

Or you're giving SU you too much credit. Probably a little of both.

Your ability to discount this team knows no bounds. Really impressive unbelief. Kudos to you sir.

We beat NC state and BC. 5 wins is enough for Shaefer to keep his job. We win 6 or 7 next year, Shaefer keeps his job again...2017 season...8+ wins or Shaefer is done. Slow steady progress.

Let's say we win 5 games this year. That's progress after last years 3-9 campaign. Most people said 5 or 6 wins this year, with a healthy Hunt, and not assuming Dungey would be as good as he is, and then in 2016 we'll be back to square 1 looking for a decent QB. We're better off than we thought before our first game. We have a QB who just may be a star for 3 more years. I think Fredricks will be a stud. We have Ishmael for 2 more years, possibly a 5 star TE coming in. Moe Neal, Irv Phillips improving. We have youth on defense... a lot of it. The most important part of our needs for 2016 has been met already. Dungey is locked in. We got ahead of ourselves after our 3-1 start...I'm guilty of this too. I like our future. All in all, if we win 5 games this year, well then hey, we did what we were supposed to do. We didn't overachieve, and we didn't underachieve.
The season is murky, our future is bright.

Please for the love of God spell the names correctly.

I hate the loss as much as anyone but we had that game in hand and gave it away again just like last week - stupid mistakes all around. More exciting football this year than last year...just love the offense, the defense just needs to be simplified as it seems the players are lost at times. The D just needs to go simple as you can run last year's D with freshmen & softmores. Those younger players just need more strength & conditioning too many missed tackles - they just need to get stronger and older that's why you redshirt.

I still believe and am just encouraged by all the youngsters - once they put together a full 4 quarters watch out. We will beat Pitt next week.

I hope you are right, but the problem is all margin for error is pretty much gone.

You're ridiculous. Maybe read all my posts. I haven't been negative at all since the end of the game, so quite labeling everyone as negative if they don't agree with you that SU wins all their remaining games.

I think it's pretty fair for me, based on the performance the last two games, to assume that SU vs. NCstate is a 50/50 game. So to say I'm discounting the team is truly clueless. At the same time, quite trying to imply your objective because this post clearly shows you're not. Not that that hasn't been obvious to most of the board already.

That's fine with me.

You've been dogging me since the game with snide remarks. I did not say we'd win all our games - I said we could win any of them. I also said we could lose any of them too. That's been my position since week 2.

I am always optimistic about the future. I am also ruthless about looking at the past (yesterday, 5 years ago, etc) and being objective. Show me where that hasn't been true.

I don't know if you get this but I respect most everyone here that respects me. If you're tired of my take for being too positive - that's pretty lame.

Pitt. Louisville or nc state and bc
I am not sure why people think we will beat pitt. We have only beaten them once in ten years and they are 5-1 (missed fg away from 6-0).

I hope that a home game is what we need to get the team on-track though I am not confident we can beat them with our D.

I don't think the probabilities are on our side that's for sure. We're an underdog for a reason.

But if I had to pick some reasons I'd go with:

- we have Dungey, they do not
- they have a defensive minded coach who will play to keep it close (hat tip to Millhouse)
- offenses that can score points can win
- our defense looked better this week
- we are home
- Shafer knows Narduzzi

I'll add that when a team is as young on both sides as ours is, there is the ability to improve and be just a better team with each weak. Each game is a learning experience for these guys, and while a senior laden team may have reached it's ceiling, one with youth will continue improving. I know that loss to UVA hurt, but in what phase of the game were we worse than we were against USF?

means nothing about our prior games vs pitt. this years pitt team is beatable and were home(virgin ia and usf were beatable but 1st away we didnt play well. virginia we blew it in the 1st quarter

That is fair. I think it will be close since both teams seem to play every game that way, though am not confident in our D to finish it for us.

I think it does in some way as we play them yearly. To the major point though: Pitt knows how to finish games and we do not. That is my concern.

last years result would mean something if we werent down 15-20 scholarship players for that game last yr

Way to go. What's a college sports board for? If you can't be a deluded, myopic, fanatic supporter of your team here, then where and when will it ever happen? 6-6 at the very worst. I'm all in.

There is a time in every young players career when the light bulb comes on and everything clicks, where they made mistakes..the mistakes just seem to disappear overnight. I have seen it with my own son playing hockey as a defenseman in bantam division.

It will happen for the youngsters sometime this year and when it does, the defensive backfield will shut some folks down, I believe that.

Not sure if it means we will win the games but we just might.

I'll also add that we've been within 7 in each of our loses late in the 3rd, early 4th - or this week vs UVa final minute with the lead.
