Still no preseason T25 love

Just beat some teams in Maui . They will be ranked then . They have a crazy non - conference schedule.
Yep, this is the rare year when we have a lot of opportunities to build a really strong non-con resume.

We need to stomp the tomato cans and wins our share of the tougher ones. They'll look good come selection Sunday and the losses won't hurt us.

It is especially stupid since the whole transfer portal debacle. Rosters flip so fast, there is no way that last years numbers have any relevance to this year. For Syracuse, we lost a ton of production, so I would imagine that is a huge factor in his algorithm. And, guys like Westry, Cuffe and McLeod don't really add anything on paper. But, as we know, it is a HUGE talent influx. So, just like that jackass Lunardi, guys like KenPom should just back off until the conference season is 8 games in. I know it is content, and that is what makes the damn world go around in 2023, but it is irritating.
Yeah, reducing preseason sports talk to crunching completely irrelevant numbers is such a bad direction to take.

The video above that I posted had some great actual discussion….and the video had like 2,000 views.

These numbers guys, who somehow are now “big names” should not even be heard from until February.

yeah, I love that video. They've done their homework. It isn't easy researching over 300 teams. But, if you are going to make your living as a basketball analyst or whatever you want to call these guys, that is what you have to do. I would love that job. We all have great conversations on these boards about the possible lineups and the possible rotation and playing style. That is the fun part of the preseason. I can't wait for this season to start.

Fair questions about the new coaches, but can there really be any doubt about JB holding us back the last five years or so between mediocre recruiting and an outmoded style ????
how far back?

just a little ...

or a lot?

We don't deserve preseason top 25 votes and have done nothing to deserve them rn. If we have by 10 games in and still aren't ranked or receiving votes then is the time I'll actually be upset about it.

Our transfers are much better than their numbers last year indicate. If you are a betting man there will be a ton of value on Syracuse early in the season.

We say this about all our transfers and recruits. Hopefully we're right this time.

I think it’s almost surely correct in Westry’s case.

Top 40ish recruit who Auburn was very high on, but got hurt.

His numbers last year are walk on level because he barely played, which makes them meaningless if he plays this year.

McCleod, we’ll see.

Starling would seem likely to improve but we’ll see.

We are this year's Kansas St. First year coach, new style, some risky transfers. Guards will be elite elite, the wings are athletic and will stretch the floor and our big guys will block some shots and catch some lobs. At our ceiling we will be able to run with any team come March.

If we can just get a big win or two in Hawaii and announce to the world that we're back.

I am Mystified by many of these preseason Cuse rankings despite the Judah/JJ backcourt and a slew of returning guys other than Jesse. I would think most analysts would have us middle of the pack, like 7-9 range (at a bare minimum). I get that Red has no track record as a head coach. But JB has been coaching for the past 7-8 years during a period of increasingly diminishing returns and running extremely stale offensive and defensive systems. So isn’t the conventional wisdom that it’s well past time to switch things up? Red is doing exactly that, plus he brought in an Infusion of athleticism and talent. I don’t know what to think anymore about the upcoming season. I just want to see us being relevant/elite again and back in the top 4-5 of the ACC every season like we were for all of the 30+ years of the Big East. Hopefully Red can have a Jerome Tang or Rodney Terry (Texas) or Dennis Gates-like first year at the helm.

If it turns out the team actually isn't any good this season are we gonna bump this thread and say gee i guess the preseason predictions were right?

I would imagine that with the turnover from year to year higher than ever (? I am assuming that, refuse to do any research) that the preseason prognostications have less value than ever before, but at the same time, thats probably what you're gonna say when your team is outside the top 100 in ken pom.

A projection system is going to look at a team that wasn't very good last year, lost their coach, the guy who played the most minutes, along with their best player, who played their third most minutes, and isnt going to think they're gonna be all that good this year. I hope it's wrong!

Rodney Terry (personally don’t think he’s a good coach) and Dennis Gates have been HCs before. If Red coaches like Tang, Schyer, or Lloyd in his first year, I’d be through the moon. Hard to gauge how good of a coach first year HCs are.

I, for one, feel better already!! I was really worried about UNC Greensboro....

Preseason rankings mean absolutely nothing. Talk to me in March. If we stay healthy and Red can coach an ounce in game…we’ll be top 15 by tourney time. Book it

The best player came back, and there is no doubt about that.
