So on Sportscenter tonight, they were showing Uconn womens highlights (why ..i Know not) and one of the players went well out of bounds on her own accord, under the basket, trying to save a ball (which she did).

So a few seconds goes by, she has disappeared from sight...she comes back onto the court, grabs a rebound right under the basket where she just left the court from, and scores...and the goal counts...

but we cant catch a pass when we go out of bounds even if pushed.

Rule doesn't apply if you are forced out of bounds. It only applies if the referee believes you voluntarily went out of bounds.

How hard is it to not run out of bounds when running the baseline?

I haven't watched a lot of non-SU games this season to know if its being called on others. I don't recall it being called against an opponent this season. Tells you one of a couple of things (i) other teams manage to run their offense without having their baseline cutters run out of bounds; or (ii) it's been pointed out that we do this more frequently than other teams and the referees are looking for it in our games.

isnt trying to save a ball and going out of bounds voluntary? you dont have to do it. To me it seems the entire point of the rule is to prevent someone from literally hiding out of bounds and then bouncing back in where and when least expected. the uconn player benefited far more from going out of bounds than any of our players did
