Women's Lacrosse SU 12 vs Boston College 14: Sat Feb 16, 12 PM

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Cuse started off hot, going up 7-2. Then BC starts to win the draw controls and goes on a scoring run. WHY on earth would Gait and Thorpe decide to shut off Kenzie Kent and not Sam Apuzzo? Yes, Kenzie is an amazing player.. but dont you think it would've been a better idea to shut off the reigning Tewaaratan winner Sam Apuzzo? Every time Kenzie would get the ball, Grace Fahey was doing a great job guarding her and Kerry often stepped in if needed and she wasn't getting any looks to the goal. Sam ended this game with 7 goals plus had assists on top of that. 7!!!! At what point do you decide to shut her off instead of Kent? I mean really. Gait and Thorpe literally let her go the entire game without being heavily guarded and she completely dominated. Horrible game management and scouting. Syracuse could have won this game had they just made that one adjustment during half time. They also need to work on the draw control department.

I don't know how you lose Apuzzo, but they did. And, you are right, but it's a bit like "choose your poison."

That being said, if they won their share of draw controls the outcome might have been different. But, they suck at it again...again. And, the problem is the same as last year. The wings are painfully slow. Don't know why Gait can't find two really fast players to put out there. Kempney, whose sister was great, was supposed to be the answer. But she looked like a deer in the headlights - had no clue what was going on.

I understand what you're saying about picking your poison, but after her 4th goal, the switch should have been made to see if it would work or not. To not attempt it the entire game and let her get 7 goals is just beyond me. Wow. The draw control has always been a weak point of ours. The older sister Kailah Kempney was the best Draw control specialist we've had, then when she graduated Kayla Treanor stepped up and took them her senior year and did well too. Ever since then its been downhill. Widner is not athletic-- when she takes the draw and loses she doesn't challenge to get the ball back, she just lets the opposing team get it and then gets off the field. Cross's wrists are weak--she may be tall, but when the ball goes up in the air she cant grab the ball like Apuzzo or Hartshorn.
