SU and UConn extend football series

IMO we should be playing as many games in the Northeast as possible. But those should be rotated or they lose any appeal. We shouldn’t play UConn yearly. A home and away every 5 years is more than enough.

I rather we play…

1. Temple
2. Army (hard to get now)
3. Navy (hard to get)
4. UConn
5. Buffalo
6. Delaware
7. UMass

I like your pro-northeast stance, but I don't see any upside to playing Buffalo, Delaware or UMass.

The service academies are a fun novelty, but they're also a major PITA to prepare for. Playing Army in a H/H every decade or so seems fine to me, just for the NY state aspect.

Rotating Temple with UConn makes some sense.

There is no benefit in playing any G5 on the road.

I think a 12 year cycle where you have home and away vs Army and Navy plus two home and away vs Temple and UConn is perfect. That means a road trip to Hartford 1 in 6 years vs 3 in 6 like we have.

Agree. Seems like we keep throwing UConn a bone since they need games yet we don’t get much in return.

I rather play Temple any day. Even Delaware too.

I like playing UConn but they shouldn’t be exclusive. Not like they bring fans or our home fans care either.
You should be very happy that their fans don’t travel.

From Sal's thoughts
1. Temple
Not a bad thought to play them 5 times a decade. 3 H, 2A Fran needs games close to S Jersey

2. Army (hard to get now)
Army renovating Michie. Play them H/H when available

3. Navy (hard to get)
Same for Navy

4. UConn
Work in a home and home 4 to 6 times a decade if a Temple deal can't be done. Leverage for a 3 games series in Hoops (H/A/MSG)

5. Buffalo
Play a 2 for 1 once a decade, maybe one series every 6 or 8 years

6. Delaware
Play a 2 for 1 once a decade

7. UMass
Play a 2 for 1 once a decade

Obviously all this won't happen but these teams are helpful for Alumni/Fan engagement and Student/Athlete Recruitment

I would hope we can afford buying 2 home games a year. One FCS and one G5. That will give us 7 home and 5 away every year.

For the FCS I would like to see Patriot League teams. They are close by which should help travel costs, they are private like us, and they aren't likely to be any good. Maybe a 12 year rotation of Colgate, Bucknell, Holy Cross, Fordham, Colgate, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Colgate, Fordham, Holy Cross, Lehigh.

For the G5 again schools that are close by to minimize their travel costs, and teams that aren't any good. Maybe a 12 year rotation of Akron, Buffalo, Delaware, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, UMass, Akron, Buffalo, Delaware, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, UMass.

Then for the other G5 a 12 year rotation of something like Temple H/A, Army H/A, UConn H/A, Temple H/A, Navy H/A, UConn H/A.

So over 12 years that would give us 4 games vs Temple/UConn, 3 games vs Colgate/Holy Cross, 2 games vs Akron/Army/Buffalo/Delaware/Eastern Michigan/Fordham/Kent State/Navy/UMass, 1 game vs Bucknell/Georgetown/Lafayette/Lehigh.

That gives us plenty of variety. It can get a little boring seeing the same bad teams over and over.

It is a little harder but I would like similar with the P4 games. Rotation of Maryland, Notre Dame, Penn State, Rutgers, West Virginia.

Another thing that stinks about the UConn games is the November roadies. Much more pleasant trip in October.

While 2026 we are looking at only 6 home games, it is possible that 2027 can be 8! Weird though that we didn't split the PSU/UConn road games so we get 7 each year.

Agreed on splitting 100%. Should work it out so it's 7 home games in 26 and 27. SU feels allergic to working out 7 home games a year (this season not withstanding).

SU scheduling: reactive vs proactive

We need DART for scheduling. It really has been poor forever.

We need another thread for the overall scheduling issues which are essentially malpractice at this point. Every year it seems to hit a new low. Embarrassing we can't get this figured out.

Good. It's nice to play teams in our region.
I agree. Wish we would schedule the University of Buffalo. Like UConn an easy roadtrip for the fans.

UB should be no worse than a 2 for 1. UB's stadium is hideous with that track but no issues traveling there once a decade for a close, winnable away game.

Wouldn't be surprised to see us play a game in the new Bills stadium when complete. With all of the public money involved there might be pressure to throw UB a bone.

I’m sure that stadium will be immaculate but it is arguably the worst fleecing of taxpayers for a stadium maybe ever in the US.

How would taking a game away from UB's campus be "throwing them a bone"?

The students won't go (unless you provide shuttle busses for them).

Maybe 20,000 fans in an NFL stadium. Reminds me of SU's old trips to Temple.

And the Iggles didn't charge $40 to park and $10 for a bottle of water..

Giving UB the chance to play a game in a state of the art NFL stadium against a P4 opponent with a regional fan base seems to be a better opportunity for the program than staging another compelling matchup against UMass in front of 15,000 disinterested spectators. But that's just me.
