Wooley is one answer. But not the whole reason.
OK, Yesterday's game represented a total defensive breakdown and is a significant reason why we have lost so many games. When we play person to person defense, because of our lack of players on the perimeter with quickness, every team gets dribble penetration at will, which leads to a layup, a kick out pass to an open shooter, or a foul! Our bigs lack rebounding intensity, Boston College got every offensive rebound and loose ball. When we play zone, again, our lack of perimeter quickness, allows other temas to move the ball inside out, until they find an uncovered player, either at the 'nail", in the corner, or under the basket.
Combine poor defense with a limited number of offensive skilled players. Wolley is the only real offensive threat. Burroughs is an inconsistent 3 point shooter with a very limited dribble drive mid range game. Our post players provide very little options for inside scoring with the exception of Izzy V., who is very inconsistent. Plus, we miss a lot of layups!!
When you combine poor defense with limited offensive/inconsistent firepower and inconsistent effort and intensity, you get the kind of performances that we are seeing this year. I am afraid that this team could be in danger of just giving in and giving up. A character test is awaiting this team the rest of the season !
