For those of you local coaches that couldn't make it, you missed out on a real treat. Free reign over the football wing and talking shop with the entire coaching staff in one on one situations. Tomorrow caps it off with attending practice and being down on the field with the guys. There's a lot of passion and knowledge on this staff and I find myself leaving their company, once again, impressed.

how much was this publized to the coaches? i know the coaches i talked to about it had no idea it was happening.

There was some great stuff out there today... I don't want to talk about it too much but I'll throw some stuff out there.

Quinta Funderburke appears to be working himself into a pretty big role on this team. Him, J West, Bris and Ashton look to be at the top of the depth chart right now along with Winfield and AC.

Surprise of the day for me, Marcus Coleman working with the 1's.

Terrell Hunt is currently no. 1, by a lot. Reps are split but it's apparent. Wilson next.

Hodge and Lynch could be twins, built extremely similar.

D. Kelly can cruise, he's a strider with good speed. Plays physical too.

Brisley, PTG, Kelly, Winfield and desir return punts... Brisley is good, I liked Kelly there too.

Play of the day, Ben Lewis in a full sprint lays out and one hands an overthrown ball, securing the catch from Long and rolling over to maintain possession.

Competitiveness is the nature and that's exactly what practice is.

My new favorite player: Alex Hodgkinson - K, former Rugby guy from London. Came up to me on the sidelines and struck up a conversation. Talked about how much he now loved the sport and what a great game it is. Very thick accent. When I asked him where he was from, "all the way across the pond". Spent a couple minutes with him, great kid.

Thanks for the nuggets - with the dearth of news about the team, anything is much appreciated!

Great stuff Finwad. I would also add that Ron Thompson was with the 1's and he looks awesome. He lost about 20 pounds. Look quick, athletic and his technique is improved. Zeke Johnson played alot of DT. AJ Long is tiny. maybe 6 foot, but I was impressed with his poise and athleticism within the pocket. He had good command and didnt look like a 3 week player. Wilson look solid on short throws, he didnt throw too many down field. Hunt is looking good fellas. He is no longer missing on short to intermediate routes. Hitting WR's in stride. He over threw Ashton on one deep ball but he hit West on another. He made good reads on the zone run plays. Finwad is right on with Hodge and Lynch. Hodge is a tad bit taller and Lynch is a tad bit thicker but they look identical. D Davis flew around and made plays as usual. Darius and Estime are super quick. Scissum had some screw ups in coverage but also had a pick 6 after the ball was tipped off Parris hands. Morgan got beat by West deep. Morris had a couple decent runs. He showed soft hands on passes thrown to him too. I was impressed with Winfield, AC and QF. All look like solid contributors. We look much more athletic on the offensive side of the ball. Guys Im not gonna comment on injuries or anything like that out of respect for the coaches and players.

No surprise there.

I so miss these writeups-I hope the staff has a change of heart about the closed spring practices for the future. They sure didn't help us get off to much of a start last year.

Starting to feel better about WRs with these reports. So much more athletic this year.

Biggest concerns are DT and TE. Zeek moving to tackle makes me more comfortable. As for TE, what are people's thoughts? Parris, Moore and Provo aren't dynamic. Maybe they won't be featured in offense..

The WR's all being talked about were here last fall.

Good point. Did AB play WR last spring or was he still in the HB role?

Only one had any experience playing WR at D1 level. The other three were either changing positions, in the doghouse or a true freshman.

Hope the doghouse stays empty this year - QF could be one of the things this team needs to contend for Top 25 status.

Yes, Broyld, Winfield, and Funderbunk were all very raw. Think they are turning the corner. Add West, Estime and Ace to that. Think it can get the job done.

Edit: forgot Flemming too. Thanks Cbus. No way the WRs aren't better

when Morgan got beat deep, was it on play-action? seemed like those guys often bit hard on run fakes last season setting up wide open bombs down the middle of the field

True but Quinta was here but not really much of an option due to not having his together. That doesn't seem to be the case now. That should help athletically for sure. Flemming was here but hardly played as he got hurt in what...the first game? He was a starter and has great size for sure. Then our two leading receivers from last year were Estime, a true freshman, and Broyld who was playing WR for the first time. Cornelius was just a redshirt freshman and showed some glimpses of hope. Winfield was redshirting. There are so many reasons for the WR group to improve from what we had last year. Couple that with improved QB play and the passing game should take a good sized leap forward.

Mojo, they were doing 7on7 and it look like they were in cover 2. Itt look like morgan was expecting deep half help. I dont know if he mis read something and decided to sit on a shorter route or not. But he tried to recover and was in a trail technique. By then it was too much seperation.

Flemming and QF have the exact same body. QF is more athletic though. He looks more smooth in his route running and has natural hands. I know the staff like Flemming and all, but I wonder if Flemming got the starting gig last season based on QF being in the dog house. All Im saying is QF will be hard to keep off the field along with Ashton. Flemming seems like a great kid an all but Im not sure how much we will see him this year. This is my opinion based on one practice Ive seen so take it FWIW. The staff see these guys everyday, I dont, so who knows?

Great to hear about the WR's and Hunt but is it because the DB's aren't quite there yet or the wr's are stepping up?
