SU football plays where you would love a do-over

Yeah the Big East was absolutely horrendous in 1997. Only one team (SU) won more than 7 games, and that was the season where Miami was decimated by probation and barely could compete.

It's funny you say that about 2012 because I feel like that's the year people always point to and say that we over-scheduled.
they were 16th in points for and 14th in points against that year. how many teams that good in both have under 10 wins? i bet that's really rare

a lot of it is murdering ecu, temple and rutgers three games in a row

in 96 they were 11th in points for and 15th in points against. AGAIN not 10 wins
in 95 they were 19th and 17th. not 10 wins

in 1998 their defense really fell off. it's like something weird happened to the defense that year... hmmm

Good ol George and his DC stint. Was the final nail in the coffin for me.

Put the '98 offense with the '01 defense and you have Auburn 2010. Donovan McNabb on one side and a senior, healthy Dwight Freeney on the other instead of Cam Newton and Nick Fairly. It's still a sport where great individuals can make a big difference.

That 2012 year they lost to Rutgers by 8 and one of the scores was a blocked FG return for TD. That one sucked big time.

Didn't we also run a slant from the 2 yard line or so that was picked?

You guys all have insane memories, btw.

I think that was the 2011 game. To Adrian Flemming, in what might have been his first career snap?

i'd like to have the punt back from the USC 30 something yard line in 2012

a second later, robert woods scored and that was it
it was actually a 4th and 2 at the USC 49 yard line. not from the 30s. still terrible.

the punt from the 32 yard line was earlier in the game on 4th and 9. barf

and woods had a really long run but was stopped at the 4. lee scored. my memory woof

I think that's when we started to see the recruiting erode a bit. Kevin Abrams graduated after '96 and most of the dline along with Darius and Jones graduated after '97. In '98 Freeney was an undersized freshman that wasn't ready to start and had a sprained ankle.

The loss of solid dlineman and two studs in the secondary hurt.

Vermeil said at halftime of the Miami game that the only thing he could think of to counter Miami's dominance on the DL was for the SU OL to line up in a non-standard special formation. And goddammit, we came out of halftime with that formation. George Deleone, we salute you.
What was the special formation? Did they line up in different gaps? The only thing I remember being different was they trap blocked with the center and guard for Wooten and Marcus lee. And once they started doing that it opened up the outside as well and kept Miami off balance.
