SU Pro Day 3/23/16

As opposed to bashing people on a message board for their personal thoughts on a public situation?
where did I bash anyone on this post about their thoughts? I've written out a well reasoned argument from the point of view of Ron Thompson and for some reason people keep bashing him for leaving.

My attitude has always been "I can't be mad at a kid for jumping to the pros when he thinks he can get paid" but I REALLY think Thompson should've stayed another year.

The article made it painfully clear his decision was largely based on a emotional reaction to Shafer & Daoust being let go. I admire the kid's loyalty but he left an incredible opportunity on the table.

He could have been the undisputed leader of Cuse football. It would be his team and he could've been the premiere DE in the ACC. He'd be a year stronger, faster and smarter headed into the combine with much higher projection than 7th round/ UFA and less talk about moving to TE.

Not wanting to play for anyother HC is just loyalty getting in the way since he'd be better prepared for the NFL if he learned another scheme. And my understanding is the DE in the Tampa 2 basically just needs to rush the passer.

I'll root like crazy for the kid to succeed but I think he would've increased his odds tremendously if he stayed.
Or he could have pulled an Art Jones, got hurt during his senior year, and had his draft stock fall even further as a result. It's never a sure thing.

Where could his draft stock have fallen? There isn't much room to fall, would be a very short trip.

I am not a selfish fan. I get the game and what it takes. Explain to me the negatives of him staying for another year and learning a position he has been playing for 3 years. I love the kid but him leaving is obviously a function of him being bitter about the coaching change and not wanting to hit the books anymore. If an employer told me i had a 10% chance of getting hired (thats what a 6-7 rd grade is ) or a chance to go back and get better for 12 months, hello!!??
There is ZERO evidence he would improve his draft position. NONE.

"bash" was the incorrect wording.

He could easily go from a 5/6/7 pick as he is currently to undrafted and not even be signed by a team. Not sure what you're talking about here.

he might also make a team and have that head coach gone in year one.. change is not that unusual

Much easier to handle making a six figure income , IMO

Yup, it is a bad decision, bc if you read fhe tea leaves, he is bitter about the staffs departure ( saw him after the pitt game and he was despondent, worrying about that game getting the staff fired). He also obviously has no interest in classes. So bc he is being stubborn about a new staff as a defensive end, not a skill players, and doesn't want to go to class, he will forgo another year of development and take a huge risk and HOPE to get drafted. Eskridge 2.0. Babers and staff would have loved his services.

You cannot judge unless you are him. That's it. Everything. From the little I know of his background and the city of Detroit - I have no earthly idea what I'd do if the people that raises me and loved me were in that kind of situation and I could do something about it.

Evidence ? No. But there are valid reasons to believe he could improve his stock - he is still relatively new to the DE position.
- Scouts aren't sold on him there as they are talking about TE or OLB
- he's got a good chance to get faster and stronger under Dino's conditioning
- He won't be getting ranked against guys who played a year longer than him in college if he waited a year
