People selling our stock as the best team in the country.

Its Gtown our rival. That means reguardless the better team is going to play worse or get screwed and the inferior team is going to play better. Its like that every year.
Whens the last time Gtown or syracuse lost by double digits against each other? Its a very rare occurance. Heck in 2003 we barely beat them in 2010 we beat them twice and lost the third. We beat them with our NIT team the last time they made the final four.

Can't believe people are afraid of Kentucky. It will be a great game and we have the experience edge.

Experience doesn't matter much when you're getting doubled up on the glass.

One of my coworkers, who I think is one of the most hilariously negative people I know (a 29 year old Larry David/George Costanza hybrid) and also will give up on his favorite teams after one loss, laughed when I told him the reaction here to last night's game.

Not much makes me happier than beating G'Town.

But that doesn't mean the world is perfect. I'm particularly happy that we beat G'Town while being beaten badly on the boards. But just because I am happy about a win does not mean I am not concerned about rebounding. It's an issue.

It's funny...when JB says everything is ok, people here say everything is ok because JB said it is. So why isn't ok for people hereto have an issue with something JB said was a big problem?

Can't have it both ways. "Right now I don't think we are a good basketball team because we can't rebound."-JB

I haven't heard or seen anyone here say anything like we aren't a good team. Most just pointing out that they way we are rebounding, we aren't going to go far in March.

You don't get that fans want to see their team play to their talent level and ability? Do you not get worried when your team plays below it's standard level of play or makes an above-average number of avoidable errors? Does the fact that your team scored more points than the opponent in the end make the process of how your team got to that point meaningless?

I think some fans are concerned at how Cuse achieved this win, and that doesn't seem strange to me. Just because the end result was a positive (win) doesn't make how you achieved that end result ("process" or play of team) meaningless, IMO.

And, look at this another way...if you are a "a win is a win, no matter how we played" person, does that mean you cannot be the opposite...a "yes we lost, but we played really well and maybe deserved to win...this is a good trend to go forward with" person? Because I have a feeling that some of the "a win is a win" people also are quick to say "yes we lost, but we played a great game"...and it would seem to be contradictory statements.

After a loss, I tend not to come to the boards for at least a day. I'd really hate to make that SOP after a close win now as well.

Cheers,
Neil

Honestly i think we could win the championship game right now and people would still quibble over things.

Team underperformed. Line was -11. The fact that it went to OT at home means we payed like crap. It could be one bad game or it could be a sign we are not improving at all while the other teams in the country are. Time will tell.

As I made clear in the other thread, I'm surprised too. The perception of Syracuse (by many, not just here) coming out of last night's game is as if they had lost by 20 to Rutgers. My biggest concern is that our coach is one of the ring leaders. It may be ploy to 'motivate' the team, but it sure sounded like a guy who thinks the issues aren't fixable.

Not sure who this is aimed at, but being human I realize that it is totally impossible for a team to perform at its utmost peak efficiency every time out. No, I don't "worry" over things I have no control over. But yes, I am concerned with the team's defensive rebounding since that is the one area that has continually shown up as a negative over several games now.

But I also realize that our defense results in a lot of missed baskets for the opposition to grab offensive rebounds and that our forcing turnovers and shot-blocking help alleviate our deficiency in this area by getting us an equal (or near equal) number of possessions.

Outside our defensive rebounding ineffectiveness, the rest of the "worries" expressed by others is, to put it bluntly, nonsense.

Cheers,
Neil

That line was bizarre.

I agree with your overall point as I was disappointed with the negativity in the chat last night and felt it wasn't fair. However, 2 yrs ago on a Big Monday at the Dome against Georgetown we fell behind 14-0 and came back and beat the Hoyas by like 20 pts so we have blown them out recently. With that said we need to improve the rebounding and halfcourt offense or we will be out in the sweet 16 again that is why people are nervous. I think we will out-talent a lot of teams but if we get into a game with a burn offense and don't rebound it will be tough to watch.

This post is yet another example of what is wrong with this board. Are you seriously suggesting that the Vegas line is the be-all and end-all of how teams should perform???

Neil

I am extremely down. My refrigerator is completely empty of beer. I was trying to save at least a six-pack, but overtime ruined that option.

The game was great - syracuse won, georgetown lost - next..

Did you watch the UNC/Duke game? Have you seen Kentucky?

Listen, I want in my heart of hearts to be right there with you. But we are less aggressive on defense as we were earlier in the season. Rebounding has gotten worse. The half court offense has not improved. We're in a shooting slump. And we are not scoring as much in transition.

And we have not faced top tier competition yet.

I truly believe we have the talent to win the title. But there is absolutely no way we win the title the way we are playing right now.

I am quite fine. Big win vs Georgetown is a pretty good thing. 24-1 as well. It will improve. JB challenged his team last night and I think it will pay off this weekend.

All the more reason to be happy

We didn't play well and still won, that's the sign of a team that can win a championship

wonder what the Carolina boards look like today...

They don't exist. Their whiners have Level 23 transmogrifiers that can completely level a forum at a moment's notice. Thank God our whiners haven't discovered them. Yet.

Sorry for the Calvin & Hobbes reference, but this place is a cartoon these days...

I am saying "IF" we won, the board will still quibble...
