Students in Newhouse labs are being moved to the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium.

Newhouse is the strange one. They moved students into Hergenhan auditorium. One shooter from a homicide they think is in Oakwood cemetery. Thus the mount dorms and Forestry are on lockdown. Maybe has to do with location of other shooter?

I would assume that the entire campus is on lockdown; the people doing the reporting on Twitter just heard from people who happened to be in Newhouse. Which makes sense, since it's DO people tweeting the updates, so obviously they probably know people who are in Newhouse at the moment. So that's why you're only hearing about certain buildings being on lockdown - those are the places where people are letting the people doing the tweeting know are located.

Just an educated guess.

EDIT: The Otto's Army twitter account just tweeted a picture inside the auditorium in Maxwell, so yeah, I'm guessing it's just campus wide lockdown.

Cops were also shot at is what I am reading. None were hit. Some crazy stuff here.

Yep. Best guess: something bad goes down on Hope, one person shot and another wounded, the shooter(s) flee the scene and get cornered by the SPD at Oakwood Cemetery. Since that's right next door to SU, and with the shooter(s) apparently hiding out in the cemetery, the campus gets put on lockdown since the suspects are viewed as desperate and dangerous.

Yeah, Hope Ave is 2.5 miles away from campus going towards Swallow's. Of course, FB and twitter are blowing up with "Shooting at SU"

I had a very good friend that use to live on Hope Ave,it's down by Brighten Ave and that is a lot more than a few blocks. I was a lot closure in August to a murder up there this summer as I was working at Syracuse Stage and a murder happened just right around the corner there,now that was a few blocks. Guys I was working with saw the guy lying on the ground right after it happened.

This happens 20 times a day in Chicago. sometimes more.

There were 14 shootings in 15 hours there the other day.

Unfortunately it's not exactly new. I remember one of my year's at SU, the city had one of the highest murder rates (per capita) in the nation due to all of the gang violence. 2002 the murder rate per capita was 15.5 (http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime-Syracuse-New-York.html). The state with the highest murder rate per capita that year was Louisiana, with 13.2 (http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murder-rates-nationally-and-state#MRord).
