Syracuse/Clemson game mentioned tonight on PTI.

Tony Kornheiser: "There is no doubt in my mind that the biggest news [in college football] is Clemson losing at home to Syracuse. 34-21. That's unthinkable to me. Earlier this year Syracuse gave up more points, 24, to Colgate than they just gave up AT Clemson. To me Mike [Wilbon], and to you too, this starts the clock on Dabo Swinney. I'm not saying that anybody is going to fire him. But I don't think we're going to hear another whiney press conference and I think he's got to start thinking in his mind - where is the soft landing for me. Is there some other place I want to coach than here [MW: "Gainesville?]. That's unbelieveable to lose to Syracuse at home. It's unbelieveable." MW: "It is! It's shocking."

REPLAYS tonight on ESPNews at 6:30pm; 8:30pm; 10:30pm; 11:30pm; 1:30am [ESPN2]; 2:30am; 5:30am.

This is at about the 17 minute mark of the program. In the lead in to the CFB segment at about 15:40 mark MW says to TK: "I called you at half-time and you didn't think Syracuse was going to hold on and beat Clemson." TK: "I did not. Did not."

Coach Fran would make a great interview guest on PTI. They used to have JB on all the time.

I havent watched since they pulled we arent filming together anymore when the pandemic hit. Shocking they are still doing it this way

PTI is still on the air??
Yes, 24 years. I think it's still the show on ESPN that gets the highest ratings. And they each just signed a 3 year extension. Tony has said it will be his last and will retire from the show at 80. I've been watching since it started since while then living in the D.C. area I read them both as columnists for the Washington Post. Tony's Sunday nonsports Style Section column was the best. They were classic.

Kornheiser is an ahole but at least he’s as ahole to everyone. Not much depth to his takes. Garbage time points Don’t mean anything when you play Colgate. Tennessee gave up tons to UAB in garbage time too. Etc
He was a very good writer when he was a columnist for the Washington Post. His Sunday Style section nonsports columns were the best. He was terrible on MNF. He still has his excellent segments on PTI. His 3 times a week podcast is very good.

Anyone that focuses on and succeeds at reaching a broad audience is going to be a generalist. He knows enough to talk about anything at a depth level that seems insightful to a casual audience. Its often easy for extremely knowledgeable people to rip apart a huge amount of what any generalist says, and not realize the skill set involved.

Someone like Josh Pate, who is a subject matter expert on college football but probably can't talk at any depth about the NBA - has a knowledge that's about 10 square miles wide and 100 miles deep. Tony has a knowledge which is 3" deep - but its 50 million square miles wide. Two different skill sets, and usually people who get upset at either misunderstand the skill set they have. (The only time I get annoyed with a generalist is when its clear the generalist thinks his or her slight knowledge at a lot of things equates to being an expert - I don't think Tony does that).
