Syracuse football 14 in '14: Projecting the crowds at the Carrier Dome this season (PS: Axe)

His guess is as good as any other I suppose.

42K average attendance would be fine enough.

i'll never understand why people look at third down as if that matters

shocking a team that's in the 80s in offense is in the 80s on third down.

Reminds me of a quote I once heard - why would I use 1st and 2nd downs to set up having 3rd and short when I could use all three to get a 1st down.

Villanova crowd will be small, and FSU crowd will be big. It's pointless to try to predict Louisville, Duke, Maryland, and NC State because all of them will depend on how well the team is doing at the time.

And I get irrationally annoyed when the State Fair and "all the things to do on Labor Day weekend" are brought up as if the rest of the country doesn't have as much or much more(usually) going on. Now we've got "Apple Picking" being written about and he's serious too(he's not wrong either). CNY'ers can be so lame sometimes. I was a "leaf raking" reference away from tossing my ipad out the window.

Nova: 33 000 w (1-0)
Maryland: 40 000 w (3-0)
Louisville: 41 500 w (4-1)
Florida State: 49, 250 L (4-2)
NC state: 34 000 w (6-3)
Duke: 39 500 w (7-3)
Pitt: 40 000 L (7-4)

Axe is low balling us across the board, 28 000 for the home opener! C'MON! Can't make attendance predictions without a w/l prediction. How the heck does Axe think we will have 31 000 for Maryland when we are 2-0????

We go 8-4: L: ND, FSU, CLEMSON, PITT

Every game winnable cept FSU, yes Clemson we can beat you! Now go start crying about disrespect Clemsoners!

Are they having a party and putting up a screen for for the Pitt game, cause last time I checked that game was @ Pitt

Maybe I'm alone in thinking the Nova game will have decent attendance? i mean It's the home opener ? I was thinking close to 40k?

I think "butts in seats" will be in the high 20s for that game. The 3 pack and Next Fan Up will probably mean 40k tickets sold, but I expect to see a lot of empty spots in the Dome. Hoping to be wrong, but I am not hearing a lot of buzz among casual fans other than L'ville and FSU.

I am not the biggest Axe fan, but I thought he was optimistic with his projections.

how many tickets did they sell for the Vill game in that get one deal?

No matter how many are in the seats, SU will announce something like 42,000. The seat giveaway certainly has boosted the number of tickets distributed, even if they go unused.

It's a crap opponent.

It's the beginning of the last holiday weekend of the Summer.

We won't be anywhere near 40k.

I agree.

I think Axe is way off.

Folks are excited about this team.

They will show up for Nova.

And, if the Orange starts well and wins, the crowds will come.

The ACC, Scott Shafer, the excitement over the QB, the bowl win in Texas, the increased prominence of college football - all of these factors will result in much better attendance in 2015.

Axe is looking through old and obsolete glasses in my opinion.

Pitt has come here 2 years in a row, so I think we just shouldn't tell them. See if their flight arrives on Friday.

I'm not sure the average person is overly excited about this team right now. I have honestly heard very little from a lot of people about going to games and I think many are taking a wait and see approach. Axe gets a lot of local feedback, so he's not just pulling numbers out of his ass.

That's why I've been killing SU about generating a buzz. We still have some time, so we'll see what comes up.

Cue Scooch and his 1991 home opener story (my freshman year as well). Different times, sure, but 35k in the Dome opener for Vandy. And I'd bet people were a lot more excited about that season.

I just don't see it for the 1-AA on the Friday of Labor Day weekend.. But I also don't really see a problem with it. If that announced # is above 35k, we should be thrilled. That will be Shafer's offer at work.

What really cracks me up about these articles is the estimates of actual attendees. Which is an actual # that no one will ever know, but everyone will feel really smart about their # they come up with.

I would hope we can get close to 40K for a 2-for-1 home opener.

We should all be happy that Syracuse University's football team isn't up for sale. We'd be traveling to Toronto for home games in the very near future.

I'm not sure marketing is the answer alone. I'd market the crap out of the "Shafer buys your ticket" stuff though. It's all pocketbook stuff until we put some wins up on the board.

You're right, which is why I think the opening crowd might not be great. People here seem waiting for something to show them it's time to get on board first. It certainly would help to try and do a lot of things to get that buzz going.

Bingo.

I don't live in CNY so I have no clue if people are "excited" about the season, but there is no way on Earth that there will be more than 30K human beings in the Dome for the Nova game, and that includes the teams, coaching staffs, cheerleaders, mascots, and concession workers.

Unless we are playing a major opponent or there is a unique circumstance (e.g. new head coach) our opening games draw flies.

It's OK, no one is going to see SU hoops play Colgate either, and that's a program that's actually been worth seeing the past decade.

7-6
8-5
5-7
8-5
4-8
3-9
2-10
4-8
1-10
6-6

4-8

That's what we're up against, people.

Seriously? 28 000 for a home Opener?

Embarrising if you ask me.

Announced will probably be ~40K.

Which is fine.

Take a look at pictures of a lot of stadiums on Labor Day weekend and compare their announced crowds to how it looks.

We'll have company, believe me.

I think and hope things are different this year.

It just seems as if there is more interest these days.

And, it's a Friday night - a fun night out for parents and kids.

The SU Football Community is truly hungry for success - and hungry for a top flight dual purpose QB.

I think a lot of folks are excited about Hunt and the prospects for an exciting offense. I think they love Shafer and love the ACC thing.

My guess is that we draw a lot more than 35,000.
