Syracuse football keeping an eye on 2019 while preparing for West Virginia

This DeVito talk is hilarious. The offense going forward is what Babers actually wants, not what he inherited with Dungey (who is a warrior). It's going to be fun.

I’m not sure what that means because behind Tommy is a Babers QB recruit who is more Dungey than Tommy.

I still think in the set up we will have with triston with the speed to go deep always, the chance for Adams to take it to the house everyplay , and Td arm it should open up all sorts of short and middle stuff and if not he can run and get his yards. I just don’t want him running like Ed cause he isn’t. He should run like a Td and go when he needs to and slide. I would never expect him to take the hits Ed has taken nor do I want him to. Remember Td is a 4.6 guy with quick ass feet so I think he gets better at running the more he plays. I think we do really well next year.

It's not about his "running"...TD will do fine with designed runs.

IMO, it's more about his pocket presence/feel and having the ability to improvise when things breakdown. You can't practice this. I think experience helps but, in most cases, it's innate. ED was extending plays and making something out of nothing the moment Hunt went down.

I don't think TD's improvisational skills can be judged solely on the ND game because of the play calling/scheme. He actually made some great reads but the OL was completely overwhelmed.
I think he'll be fine...especially if the OL performs well.

Oh I have no worries and I agree with ya but just remember as Td got more time playing he also improved his running. He wasn’t the Hellian as a soph as he is as a senior. He was good but not as good as now. My point with Td is he had some moments in some games to take off and instead he threw it away which is ok to but I think he had an alley where he coulda got 10 yds with his feet. As he plays more I think he will start taking that and not be dungy but keep the drive going for another chance to throw a Td. My hope for him is the Nd quarterback who can be illusive but only run when needed hoping for someone to break open. With his throwing ability I see it being something he keeps gettting better at. Take the wheel and fly young man and put us on the map permenantly. Go Cuse

1000% agree with this.

TD is supposed to be faster than Dungey. The question is: Does he have his instincts and toughness as a runner. Dungey isn't a speed demon, but has great instincts to make defenders miss and the willingness and toughness to run. Think he'll be fine, but time will tell.

I want toughness as a runner, but not too much toughness, which I feel is strongly correlated with major QB injuries. I want sliding and getting out of bounds and throwing the ball away. Marvin Harrison obviously isn't a QB, but he was brilliant at avoiding major contact. I want Devito to be like that.

2019 will be 7 years since we had the same QB start every game of the season.

Uh... Dungey 2018 started every game.

Whoops, I clearly did not bring my A game on that factoid.

I'll rephrase: 2012 was the last time we had a QB play the season start to finish without missing substantial time in any game due to injury (e.g. Dungey, Hunt) or sucking (e.g. Zach Allen).

I don't think people are getting it...the offense isn't supposed to "need" a Dungey to function...

It's supposed to scheme speed guys open, not rely on the QB to "dodge & weave"

Dungey is/was a Top 5 QB here and he's amazing, but he also wasn't what Dino would script to run his offense. Tommy and others recruited are. That's all good.

I don't mean any offense here...I just think the QB run is much more "keep the defense honest" in Dino's offense than we've been watching, mostly because of ED's skills and our team's needs.

The future is bright!

You might be right but we'll never know if we can't protect the QB consistently.

I could just as easily speculate that after a couple of years in th ACC Dino realizes he needs a dual threat QB, hence the signing of Chance. I'm mot saying I'm right but TD and CA will be the first QBs signed by and playing for HCDB.

True. This is a wonderful thing to argue about!

Go Orange

Kind of interested to see if the offense itself changes a bit with Devito at the helm, the players allude to the offense itself changing or at least that is how I took the comments not just the fact that their will be new guys. Devito I would think certainly opens up the playbook a bit.
I disagree, I think having Abdul Adams as a home run threat makes us a more dangerous team.

Everyone knows we are gonna throw the ball, knowing we have a true RB will open up the offense for Tommy to pick the D apart.

I don’t get involved in Qb talk but TD doesn’t get rattled or lack confidence . He is a better athlete than u have seen . Rest assured TD will be a humble leader who will do his job at an elite level . Merry Christmas everyone enjoy the bowl
I just want to see how he looks and performs with another year in the S&C program. Can'T freaking wait and I think that having Adams and Moe in the backfield next year will be a huge help...as long as they can block as well as Strickland did. I think he was under-rated as a player and what he meant to the offense.

Just interested to see how the OL shakes out.

Y’all do no TD pound for pound is one of the strongest players in the team ...

People will drastically underestimate the loss of Dungey going into next year. You don't lose your 4-year starter at QB, the heart and soul of the team, and expect things to pick up exactly where they left off the prior year. There will be some growing pains with TD taking over the helm combined with the new pieces on the oline.

That is very true but you must also factor in the addition of a four star running back and four star wide receiver that you did not have this past season. DeVito is much more athletic than many posters give him credit for. It will be interesting to see but I have faith in TD and Coach Babers. Go Orange!!!!!!!!

Plus, TD played some this year and did a very good job in winning a couple of games for us this year. The biggest adjustment is on the OL next year IMO.

Good points ... although 6'4 230 is a lot harder to take down than 6'2 210. No question Dungey's mobility and size were a huge part of our success ... first downs, red zone, amazing scrambles. We're going to miss that.
I know I'm going to get clobbered for this, but Devito is not 6-2, standing next to Dungey he's a full 3-4 inches shorter probably more between 6-0 and 6-1. His frame is much smaller too.

Its not about faith, its about what we see with our own eyes. I'm hoping for a 8-4 season.

Don't know how to say this any other way. Tommy DeVito is 6'2" tall!
