Just another Orange fan opinion:
TD has a much quicker release than ED's.
TD has more "zip" on the pass than ED's.
RESULT: Even McF***It could call bubble screens all day with TD and have success.
Disclaimer: I don't want bubble screens called all day! It's nice to have it available to shake things up, make a D play at the line and let the speed burners get behind the DB, but just a few to keep the D honest.
The entire team is better and deeper due to S&C, recruiting for the system, and excellent coaching. That said, the running game now has a top level running back who needs very little opening to break free. HCDB stated when he came here that he expects 2,000 yards on the ground and 2-1,000 yard/season rushers. This implies he expects different run styles, some pounding runs and some shifty-back runs.
ED did a lot with the tools he had. He looked great with AET and Ish. If ED had a stable of receivers and a back to take pressure off him, his passing game probably would have looked better. Still, he liked running, so that would have remained a big part of his game.
That said, TD will have designed run plays. Defenses will have to defend against the HCDB "playbook" which runs several plays from each formation. TD is not likely to need to improvise as much as ED had to, especially compared to years 1 & 2 as opposed to this season.
All that to say, I expect HCDB to tailor the game planning for TD and to utilize more weapons in the arsenal (because the arsenal is growing, no claiming he failed to utilize the arsenal). The trend is upwards, ED did a great job for the Orange, now TD will do a great job. I am not worried, HCDB knows what he is doing and will have the parts in place to win. I am amped up for the bowl game and next season. I would expect that TD sits a few fourth quarters (possibly sooner because he has a large lead) and CA gets experience in clean up duties.
It's good to have first world CFB problems again. It's good to be Orange!
