Heather Lyke, welcome to Cuse Athletics!

Lyke served as the AD at Pitt from 2017 until she was let go last September. She also served as the Athletic Director at Eastern Michigan before her time at Pittsburgh.

In a statement to NewsChannel 9, Syracuse Director of Athletics John Wildhack wrote:
“We’re thrilled to bring someone with Heather’s pedigree and expertise to our team, in what is a transformative time in collegiate athletics. She brings a wealth of experience and success to Syracuse, including her time in the ACC as the Athletic Director at Pittsburgh, where Pitt football won its only ACC Championship in 2022, men’s basketball returned to the NCAA Tournament, women’s volleyball emerged as a top 10 program nationally and men’s soccer made multiple appearances in the College Cup.

I kind of wonder if Heather becomes the unofficial AD of the non revenue sports, so John can put full focus to the revenue sports. Seems like an org restructuring move that makes sense.

Same here, I want someone who can raise capital and is forward thinking. Not a person who failed at PITT.

C'mon give her a break.....it's REALLY REALLY difficult to be successful at PITT !!

Yeah, my first thought, too.

So, she was fired by Pitt because she interviewed for the Northwestern AD position (among other things like slow fundraising)? Am I reading this right?

I think it was because of her blunder extending Capel.

This would make a lot of sense. Our non revenue sports other than lacrosse, men’s soccer and occasionally cross country have not been great. It would be good to have her focus on improving those programs while JW focus on football, bball and fundraising.
