Sounds like she is the front runner and was brought in to replace JW specifically. Although it would be odd to interview if they were going to “promote” her to the job. Wonder if the new Chancellor will be sensitive to having a diverse team in place and like the fact she has prior AD experience. Hope JW has some say in the replacement but doubt it.
I will be utterly stunned if she is hired. Even if she was the most qualified candidate in the world - she was also a key player in the apparent Kent/John rift which led to turmoil and dysfunction. If she’s hired, it’ll be an ongoing situation since the alliances and enemy camps will remain set. The university needs a reset.
Having said that, any company I worked for would always go through an interview process, even if they were 98% sure of an internal candidate they were going to hire. One reason is you don’t want people to feel there is a “union line of progression” in management jobs; the other is occasionally an outside candidate will blow the committee away and justify changing plans.
