Syracuse releases its Week 1 depth chart.

What a difference five years has made for this program. How many guys who didn't make the two deep would have been starters on Marrone's first team?

I know it's game week, but this season can't start soon enough.
It makes me appreciate what he was able to do in his short time here. He brought us back from the depths. Now I think SS is going to ultimately take us farther than DM could have.

Flemming must have had a heck of a camp.

There may be a depth issue at tackle so I'm not sure what to make of it but McGloster backing up Hickey is something to watch. McGloster was the CList kid from NJ who we offered and brought in two summers ago. I'm not even sure he ever played football before, a year maybe? The buttgers faithful laughed about that for days.

Despite the depth chart, I'd expect Michael Lasker to play ahead of him at LT if it came to that. Lasker also has starting experience from last year.

Also, ready or not with Dowels...

Kid had some impressive offers. Hope that he's up to the challenge, because we need someone to emerge as that #4.

He was the game one starter last year.

Not that much of a surprise.

yes and no. Injured his whole career, he's never played and never contributed and had a lot more competition this year. I think it's surprising he bounced back from yet another injury and put himself #1 again. He missed spring ball to.

How serious is Nick Robinson's injury? I don't see him on the 2 deep, and I assume that's the reason for his omission.

I'm actually pretty excited that Marcus Coleman is #1 on the depth chart at DT. He's come along nicely.

Agreed. This is an important development for the DT. Glad he emerged.

One last peculiar depth chart note: Brisly Estime is listed at 209 pounds. He was at 172 on the pre-training camp depth chart.

FWIW: Adonis Ameen-Moore is also listed at 260, and I've been told he's closer to 230 now.

Zaire Franklin is closer to 240lbs as well. Good to see he is the back up MIKE. He will see some burn as a true Freshman.

I also feel Lasker would be the 1st OT to play at either spot should something unfortunate happen with Hickey or Foy.

I hate how they label them in their academic year, and not football eligibility. Makes it much more confusing.

Also, Rodney Williams will be the nickel cornerback. Very surprising so it speaks to just how well he performed during camp. This classs of 2014 has the potential to be a game changer for this program.

Looking at the depth chart it's pretty amazing how far we have come. Other then being a little thin in the interior DL, and CB's we have a really talented, and pretty deep squad. Whigham, Reddish, Morgan is an extremely good trio of corners, just have to hope nobody goes down. The one thing I think we are missing is that playmaker. You need those explosive players who can take it to the house at any point and time. Estime is that guy, and Erv has the potential to be eventually, but we have to continue to recruit explosive weapons. We need Custis, and Ishmael to develop into that type of player.

I don't know if anyone has brought it up yet, but there's a walk-on lineman on the two deep. Is Seamus Shanley that relatively talented, or do we need Nick Robinson back that badly?

No depth chart needed for this game , just keep it as an open competition live ammo extension of camp. Guys will play with real urgency and set the tone for the season.

I would look at the o line as more of a 8 man rotation than a 2 deep. Lasker is currently the 6th lineman. Hayes would be 7th. When Robinson returns one of the three starting guards becomes the 6th lineman. I think if injuries happen you see some shuffling along the line with those players. It looks like in that case Miller is really key since he is apparently the only one who can consistently snap in the shotgun.

Of the true Freshmen Ishmael, Franklin, Dowels, Long, Bennett and Custis are on the week one Depth Chart.
I'm sorry but I am still not buying Long as the back up QB.

Agree regarding Long. Not sure what the angle is on that- throw teams off, keep up his confidence, etc. Awfully hard for true freshman to see time at QB be it first or second string.

Is that really true though? If Lasker is #6, then why is he the backup right tackle? We really know nothing about this line beyond the starters.

It had been reported in the last week or so that Lasker was also getting work at guard so I'd agree with RICuse44 that with Robinson out, Lasker is prepared to be the 6th guy. He could probably play wherever needed (except center) if one of the guards or tackles go down during the Nova game unless we're up by a lot.

After 3 years of waiting I am hyped to see him get meaningful carries. You wanna try and tackle him? Go ahead and step up!
I had a feeling he was going to step up. Hope he bust out this year really pulling for him

Yeah, when I look at that depth chart, except for QB, the line, and H-Back (whatever, that's such a bogus position designation) I like the 2nd teamers more than the 1st teamers.
I really like the 1st team LBs. I think they'll be the difference maker in some key games this fall.
