I think the city closed it years ago.

Drumlins, nee Nottingham Knolls, was a fantastic club until SU bought it and of course screwed it all up.Proud BU alum. No chance I was getting in if I didn’t play golf when I went in ‘04.
On the flip side, no chance I was going to go anywhere else but SU if they had a team. Syracuse kid, obsessed with SU. How do you own 2 courses (that were my home course for my entire junior golf career and my high school teams course) and not even entertain a team? Yeah I know title 9 but that still bugs me to this day even though I loved every minute at BU
Oh it’s open. I’m involved with PGA reach foundation and that’s where it’s hosted. Dennis Duval on the board as well. I used to get a Thelma’s frozen lemonade and a snickers there for $1.50 when I was 10 in 1996.Sunnycrest.

That would be a dream come trueMaybe Melo, Lally or AW will support a Men's and Women's team and you can head it up.
My parents were members, both were club presidents. My kid neighbor, who I babysat, also became a club president. I beaned Rod B Jr. on the head with my putter, at the top of the 11th green, when we were ~12 years old, he rolled all the way to the bottom of the green. Our playing partner said, "just leave him there", but I helped him walk back to his house; he was fine. Lots of memories.Drumlins, nee Nottingham Knolls, was a fantastic club until SU bought it and of course screwed it all up.

That's where I first hit balls around - Sunnycrest! It's still there I hope? Might have to sneak over there when I'm back in town in a few weeks, if it's not covered in snow.
I would say I did not play golf there, since there is no way anyone would consider how I hit the ball to be golf back then.
I learned to play at the par 3 version of Sunnycrest. Wish the 18 hole version still existed. On a side note, my high school (Henninger) was built on a former golf course. Fortunately they left par 3 holes (9 holes?) which I more than once cut classes to go play a bit.
Had my first ever birdie at Sunnycrest back in HS. Chipped it in from like 20 yards away. Best feeling ever considering I was still just learning to play. When we were short on allowance $$ my Eastwood buddy and I would each carry like four clubs and walk up the hill to sneak on. Played 6 holes to avoid the clubhouse area.I learned to play at the par 3 version of Sunnycrest. Wish the 18 hole version still existed.
Believe it used the real estate now used for the softball baseball and football facilities, along with the area used by the high school and the housing development next to the basketball courts.
Would love to know more about the original layout if anyone is privy to that info.
I first learned to downhill ski at Drumlins. I was back there a couple of years ago and the ski hill now has 30-40 foot trees on it.Had my first ever birdie at Sunnycrest back in HS. Never played Drumlins, but had our Jr Prom there and used to go XC skiing there with my mom.
I can find out more info on that. I’ll let you knowI learned to play at the par 3 version of Sunnycrest. Wish the 18 hole version still existed.

BTW, I knew Jack M; quintessential country club pro, LOL. Prefect little pro shop just to the right of the first tee. I may have even taken a group lesson from him way back in the day.Drumlins, nee Nottingham Knolls, was a fantastic club until SU bought it and of course screwed it all up.
Yeah I remember in 2002 having my windshield cracked by an errant shot as I was heading to DeWitt Sports. I was not happy lolThe Lyndon golf course on Route 5 in Fayetteville was where I used to play with my dad. It was $5, if I remember correctly, and they didn't have golf carts. You had to be careful on 9 and 18 not to hit your ball into traffic. I once saw someone bounce one off of a moving car and onto the green. It was an impressive accident. If you really had some muscle, you could hit it over the street and onto the course at Onondaga Country Club.

Omg Dewitt sports! We need like a golf only thread where we share memories and talk about stuffYeah I remember in 2002 having my windshield cracked by an errant shot as I was heading to DeWitt Sports. I was not happy lol

We need to revive this immediately !I know there are a few professional golf threads out there, but I thought this could be more for posters as players. I just got back into the game late this summer after about a 17 year hiatus (kids and career) and have really got the bug again. Thought this could be a thread about course recommendations, travel, equipment, getting a game, etc.
My goals for this year are to lower my handicap (aiming for single digit, but I'd take south of 12) and out on some of the more esteemed courses in Upstate NY and the surrounding area (e.g., Sagamore, Saratoga, Taconic, Leatherstocking, etc.)...

I work at OGCC. We occasionally find balls behind 5 tee box. So, they are still hitting balls over the road! LolThe Lyndon golf course on Route 5 in Fayetteville was where I used to play with my dad.
