Talent - Amazing Stat

yeah, and then they don't back it up on the field. Please, they have legit 4 and 5 star players.

I did not say they don't have legit 4 and 5 star players. I just think that when the recruiting services do there final evaluations an Alabama offer carries a lot of weight. If someone is a high 3 star before bama offers I doubt they will stay a three. I know this doesn't apply to many of their recruits because they are a selector school and they can just pick who they want, but it can change the volume of four stars they have.

You expected basically every on-field player on Alabama to be either a four or five star?

Wow.

I didn't.

Do you think every on-field player on Georgia or LSU or Florida or Ohio State or Oklahoma or Oregon is either a four or five star?

I don't know that I necessarily "expected" it but I'm not surprised at all. It's a pretty amazing stat, I agree completely.

Did you hear this?

Alabama has only two guys who contribute who are NOT four stars!

Does that put things in perspective?

The vast majority of programs don't recruit like that.

Then there's that Texas team that had 44 players who were 4-5 star recruits and got blown out by a BYU team that had only 9 of them.

Star ratings are snapshots of what players are thought to be at a particular stage in their development. Obviously if you get more highly rated guys you have a better chance that some of your guys are going to turn out to be really good but there are no guarantees. Also football is a sport where an outstanding player like Jim Brown at running back, McNabb at quarterback or a Dwight Freeney at defensive end can elevate the teams. By the same token, an inadequacy at those positons can bring down a team fully of highly rated recruits.

Would it scare you if our next game were against Texas, Michigan or Florida? I wonder how many four star guys they have.

Michigan has pretty much taken what they've wanted on the recruiting trail for the past 3-4 years. Loads of talent. Complete underachievement going on over there.

Florida St. is "in" right now, as history has shown that will swing back to Florida eventually and then back again. Even though there are a ton of Florida and SouthEastern schools getting their recruits more than ever at this point. Muschamp will land on his feet, he's a good coach. A quality candidate for someone in need. I'd imagine he'd go back to DC at a National Power before taking a lower level HC position.

Texas is interesting. Nothing like that befuddled look Charlie Strong had on his face in the Dome a couple years back. They typically have never had to stray too far from home to grab the kids they want. Maybe that's coming back to bite them? Football is more national now than ever. The only quadrant of the country that doesn't play pretty much year round is the NorthEast, and it shows. Texas may have to adopt a more National recruiting approach.

To be so impoverished.
