I agree, I was just joking around. I just understand where ottointhegrotto is going with this. I propose we just grab a J/C kid with 2 years eligibility that knows how to dribble the ball. I love Mook and all but I prefer a guard that if he is one dimensional he has the ability to bring the ball up the court rather than one who can only shoot. If we weren't losing Brandon Reese I think this would be a non issue.

I just think you can't prepare for every contingency. First, if for some reason Dion sticks around we have four guards and Cooney likely is getting the minutes (or less) that MCW is getting this year. More likely Dion leaves, you still have 3 high level guards. In the absence of an injury, a fourth guard is unlikely to get minutes, especially given that you won't be able to steal him any minutes at SF with the log jam we're going to have up front. Just think its one of those years where the roster isn't really going to allow you to plan for that contingency, unless you can do it with someone who is already here and willing to take the risk that he gets no PT at all. In my view all signs point to Mookie, but maybe he isn't interested in pursuing post-graduate work.

It's actually too bad Reese is a senior, right? He could be used next year in an emergency. He'd do a nice job too but I'm correct in thinking this is his last year, right?

The legend of Reese. I love when people talk about him as if he was a viable D1 guard.

I have zero inside knowlegde but I bet Mook moves on and deservedly so, he should get to play somewhere. The hypothetical guy I'm talking about bringing in is the guy we just mentally abuse with no promise to ever see the floor. Just on the off chance someone gets hurt. Then we immediately recruit over him in 2013. Just to stem the possible tide. I just have an irrational fear of losing a guard next year. We had 4 quality dudes the year devo and rautins went down. Obviously this is all null and void if Dion returns but the odds have got to be stacked against that... sadly.

if he was a little bit taller he'd have been a baller... like ski-lo.

That's all I'm thinking. We can't get a Kong equivalent? A player with some limitations but that could provide spot minutes if the need arises? We don't think there's a guy like that, happily dreaming that he'll take his chances being the 4th guard at Syracuse?

Why is everyone so ready to poo-poo away having Mookie as our 4th guard? I think Mookie actually deserves 5-7 minutes per game right now this season. I would LOVE to see Mookie come in next year and actually get some playing time. He's the proverbial offense-in-a-jiffy that everyone loves.

Mookie is a great shooter.. i prefer my limited guard to be a better ball handler. Mookie is fun when we are up big and he can shoot harlem globetrotter 32 footers and knock them down. Not when one of our 3 guards tears an ACL and we're limited to two great guards who can't possibly play 40 mins each.

Mookie's offense might come in a jiffy...but his defense often involves a whiffy.

Not sure why we wouldn't consider bringing in a 4th guard next year if Dion decides to leave. If he stays no need. If he does leave we have a 4th guard for insurance if someone gets hurt but also have a guy for when most likely Dion and Triche leave after 2013. Then we have Two Juniors and a softmore vs. two Juniors and a Freshman.

would that person resemble the stay puft marshmellow man? sorry i had to.

I think it would be nice to have a 4th guard since MCW is not getting a lot of experience this year. Yeah, he's playing but limited minutes.

Kind of like Sherman Douglas after Pearl went hardship?

I do not understand this Mookie love fest. If you look at Mookie's conditioning this year, it's obvious that he is not trying to get ready for next year, at least at Syracuse. Mookie is gone after this season.

Yeah, I've noticed that.

where is Mookie going? is he in line to graduate this year?

Mookie has been here 4 years including the redshirt. he came in with KJo.

In the unfortunate event of an injury to one of our rotation guards, Brandon Reese would make David Patrick look like Derrick Rose.

He couldn't be an option. We'd be better off with Fair playing the point.

absurd.

We'd be better off with Jimmy B donning the shorts again, then trying to play Reese any meaningful minutes...ever.

he is. he turned down full rides to attend SU. Practices I was at, he gave Flynn fits and kept him out of the lane regularly. He is a very good player.

And people wonder why syracuse.com comparisons are made... <sigh>
