Teens beating up refs

With Georgia's gun laws they should of had some form of security on site....

I've watched many of these games in basketball crazy Georgia. The players are from very violent subcultures outside of normal society. Even language is unusual. Sometimes play is well mannered, sometimes there are unconstrained hotheads, especially younger teams. The story is unusual but not surprising.

Is it? We probably don’t know about the hundreds of times this happened previously because there were no cell phones there to make this video go viral.
Well I can tell you that yesterday shots were fired at the Crossgates Mall in Albany and a young girl was hit. That isn’t the first shooting there. There have been stabbings and melees there as well. I’ve live long enough to know that this type of violent behavior was very uncommon years ago. Just because there weren’t cell phones doesn’t mean it was happening. It would be reported on the news.

Crime is unquestionably up nationwide over the past couple years, but the country was still much more violent in the 70s and 80s than it is now.

I wonder if the ref will get charged for landing that first punch on the initial aggressive teen.

No. It’s worse.

An umpire was punched by a 30 some year old “mother of the year” after a 12u softball game in Mississippi (I think). The center cannot hold.

But I think we're seeing more violent crime that doesn't reach the threshold of murder across a wider segment of society.
The numbers don’t support that assertion

Do numbers always tell the whole story? You see physical altercations in places you didn't 20 years ago. How many times did you hear about someone indiscrimately shooting at a car that cut them off 20 years ago?

All I can say is, if you don’t think people are less civilized today, you’re not paying attention. I don’t care what murder stats say. Go to a kids soccer game. As a ref, I can tell you referees are dealing with stuff from players that would never have happened in the last outside or very rare instances. Now it’s commonplace. Every damn day. That’s why the numbers of refs are falling in all sports.

Really? I never did nor did anyone I know.
It’s in movies from that time period, often set up in a comedic way.

Just go ahead and stick your head back in the sand and pine for the days of yore.
