Tell me why I shouldn't expect...

Don't forget a couple of things - Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

I think there should be a board law against anyone using NFL examples for college situations.

The games are soooooooo different, comparisons are almost meaningless.

let the record show that if we draft a gronk, we should play a gronk

I love when people use the Pats as an example of how a 2 TE offense can work.

That wasn't exactly BB's evil plan. He got them both on the team, saw them play, and suddenly was like "holy , we should build an offense around these guys!".

Sadly, one killed a guy. And not in a fun, with-a-trident way.

What? We don't have Bill Bellichek and Gronk?! Whatever could be learn from the system they implemented!?

Probably not worth trying. You guys are right. The only offensive systems worth anything are run at Washington State.

Sorry for the error of my ways. To think a system could be implemented that involving two pass catching TE's. If we only had big tall athletic receivers that could easily become TE's. Or that it might be a great formation to run out of - or switch to spread principles without subbing. Or a speedy little skat back.

As you were boys.

asking for a college example is not unfair

In all honesty, there are three components of a successful play:

1. Scheme
2. Talent
2. Execution

Sometimes scheme/execution can cover up a lack of elite talent (Nassib>Lemon). Elite talent can overcome poor execution and poor scheme (see FSU). I think we can all agree that we were lacking in all 3.

Can the 12 personnel packages that Lester wants to employ one that smartly can overcome elite talent with better scheme/execution? We'll find out.

Is there something to be learned from the scheme/execution that NFL teams use in that package? Of course.

Would it work better with elite talent? Yes. Everything does.

you can't come up with college examples, can you?

Boston College's offense is out of a base 12 personnel.
do you think they're dynamic?

"I think Lester wants to air it out and be really dynamic out of the 12 personnel. I think it's all out, take shots, etc."

12 is nothing more than a personnel package. The formations and the plays run from them are the key. If they are good plays and are designed to work against the opponent and best utilize our talent it will be great. But we are far from knowing what it will be.

As I recall, Lester ran a 12 with a loose formation (TEs split off a bit from the line) for almost an entire game. (I think it was meant to simply everything for AJ.) It didn't change things much. We'll see what happens next year.

BC is #80 in total offense. Wisconsin plays out of a base 12 personnel and is #21.

Oregon runs the spread out of the 12 personnel when they have a good TE.

Alabama uses the 12 personnel about 3/4 of the time (or did last season).

Exactly. BC runs the ball traditionally out of 12 personnel and also runs option out of it with the QB keeping the ball a lot.

I don't think they have a good TE or WR's. The strength of their their offense is running the ball with RB or QB. That may be us next year, given Hunt's running ability. But we have better WR's than they do. Even with our hugely inept offense we passed it more deep and our TE's were better.

As Crusty said - it's a personnel grouping. Everything I've read on it points to the ability to run and pass - and run a version of the spread - all from within on personnel grouping. If you go no-huddle, you can catch a defense in a bad spot.
